N ll T Sfttrfslzf lfacfauzfiifi 'lhe Student l'ederalists organized lor the hrst time at lliitlind High School this year l he cluh was lormed. using as a nucleus a group ol' students who had attended a simmer L'I1NlwCI'6I'1CC where they learned ol. the Qtudent Federalist Nloxement, Cthers interested in xxorld .illairs joined. and the group selected Xliss Carolyn Allen to act as faculty' adviser lmmediately alter lvormlng, the cluh laecame a chapter ol the nationil Student Federalist organization .-Xt the hifweeltlj' meetings ol the cluh, attempts were made to promote a greater interest in and knowledge ol. current affairs Discussion in which all cluh memlfers participated was one ol the methods used. ln order to lfring to the student l'ody' some ot the ideas ol the cluh, the Student Federalists presented an assemhlnv at which they featured Dr XN'ingfsit Chan as spealter His intimate knowledge ol' world situations. especially those pertaining to China, his own country, aroused a sympathy and interest in hoth Student liederalists and nonfeluh memhers which no amount ol' reading material could, Dr. Chan's appearance was one of the highlights of the cluh year. The cluh also helped sponsor a onefday conference for high school stu' dents, which was modeled on the plan of the Shawnee Institute on Wcirld Affairs, As The Talisman went to press, Nl.iryje.in Burr and VVilliam VN'ild demon! strated the JIITIS ol' their organization at a meeting ol the Rutland Community Cluh. At the heginning of the year, the fundamentals of photography from film to finished picture were stutliecl, later, the memhers took pictures with their own cameras and these were tlevelopetl antl criticized.
