CLASS HISTORY As we entered our freshman year, we made blueprints for a four stage missile. We had 90 working on the project under the direction of Roger Davis and his associates Jim Crisp and Debbie Smith. We worked many months on the first stage of our missile, and at last we finished it. To celebrate, we had an outer space party at which Debbie Sheets was elected HOW TO GET BACK TO EARTH QUEEN CAN- DIDATE. Although she wasn't chosen queen, we were all very proud of her. As 84 raring-to-go sophomores entered the missile scene, we started on the second stage with Ernie Smith, director, and associates Debbie Sheets and Melva Johnston. Through our educational assemblies this year, we let our fellow students know a little about our missile program. This led to many agreements and disagreements, but we didn’t let this bother us; we went on with our missile program. This year Lilly Imboden and Joyce Brogan were our queen Candidates. The genius juniors with the help of Barbara Williams, director, and associates Betty Clark and Darlene Smith, and their crew of 80, made plans for the launching in May 1967. This year Darlene Smith and Nancy Knotts were our queen Candidates. The crew along with its leaders, received their missile launching rings. To conclude the third stage of our missile, we had a great blast known as PARADISE ISLE, with Dar- lene Smith, princess, and Joe Hawkins, prince. We began the fourth and final stage of our missile with Barbara Williams, director, and associates Charles Scott, Dennis Weber, and Darlene Smith. This year there was a crew of 72. Finally after three years of electing candidates for the How to get back to Earth queens contest, our candidate Darlene Smith was elected queen. Before launcing the missile, we decided to take a trip to Washington to consult the President and the United Nations officials on our missile program. Having checked and found all conditions perfect for our launching, we said good-bye to our friends and teachers and stepped aboard the missile which we had chris- tened GRADUATION. We then sailed off into the future, each going his own way. VARSITY SEASON SUMMARY The Rutland Red Devils of Coach Charles Smith enjoyed their best year since 1962 as they compiled a 7 won 2 lost record. The Red Devils were victorious on passes from quarterback Joe Hawkins to split ends Roger Davis and Mike Johnson and tight end Mike Barr. The running of halfbacks Elbert Williams, Gary Drenner, Bill Kennedy, and Jim Vanaman along with fullback Larry Lemley pro- vided the power for the Devils' ground attack. The fine defensive play of Roger Barrett also con- tributed to the success of the Red Devils. Big powerful linemen provided the holes in the offensive line and plugged the holes in the defensive line. Center Charles Scott, the only senior on the interior line, tipped the scales at 205. Tackles Perry Kennedy and Roger Black both weighed 202 with guard Leroy Welsh weighing 195. The two lighter guards on the team were Dave Rice at 185 and Steve Brogan at 165.
