RESPECTFULLY WE THE SENIORS OF 1965 DEDICATE THE NOR’WESTER TO CALVIN ANDREW SPROUSE Qi October 28, 1964, we were all shocked at the tragic automobile accident that took the life of Andy Sprouse. Do you know what it is to work and play with a person five days a week for three years, and then one day have someone tell you that he has been taken away from you? Well, we at Rut- land High School do. Andy was our friend. He was the kind of person who was quiet, but not a hermit; noisy, but not unruly. He would do anything to get a good clean laugh. When you walked into a classroom, you could always tell if Andy were present. Andy, who was such a handsome boy with his sparkling eyes and alert face, would never walk down the halls again. Andy, who was an active member of the Methodist Church, only this summer did much of the painting and repair work at the parsonage. Andy, who would have been 17 years old November 16, would never get to march across the stage at commencement. Andy, who was one of the best liked seniors by both faculty and students, would not start basketball practice on Monday. Andy, who really enjoyed life, will charm no more people with his engaging smile. Andy, who was one of the most enthusiastic members of the Yearbook Staff, will never see the finished publication for which he had worked so hard. 5

IN MEMORY OF Floyd Rumfield During the past summer all students of Rutland and students of prior years were extremely saddened to learn of the sudden death of Floyd Rumfield. Red, as he was affectionately known by hundreds of students, was liked and respected by all. He had been custodian at Rutland Elementary School for fourteen years. He was far more than most janitors, as he was usually the first one called in case of any accident. He was also the person to whom everyone ran when anything needed to be fixed. Everyone who has been connected with any of the Rutland schools for any number of years, now misses the familiar sight of Red and his dog, Sport, at the Rutland Elementary School. 6
