Among them are the following: The artistic singing of many beautiful songs appro- priate to the various stages of child growth and instruction in instruments of the orshestra and band. Rutland High School presented an American Pageant on November 22, 1935. Several departments of our high school cooperated to make this an integrated program. As direct outgrowth of the chief aim, musical accomplishment, were the activities of the preparation of costumes by the Home Economics classes, the preparation of the stage bv the Industrial Arts classes, production of proper stage scenery by the Ait classes, preparation of programs by the commerce pupils, and the composition of the speaking parts by the English classes. The program is as follows: The Home Road: Indians: Sun Worshippers; Pilgrims: The Doxology; Thanks- giving; Revolutionary Period: Yankee Doodle; Negroes: Steal Away; Keep in the Middle of the Road; Shortnin’ Bread; Civil War Period: When Johnny Comes March- ing Home; Dixie; Stephen Collins Foster: Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair; Oh, Susanna; Old Black Joe; Cowboy Songs: Home on the Range; Texas Stampede; Sailors: Blow the Man Down; Mountaineers: Down in the Valley; Old Zip Coon; World War Songs: Keep the Home Fires Burning; Katy; The Man on the Flying Trapeze; America: From Edward Block’s Symphony. On March 3 and 4 the annual operetta was given by the high school chorus. This operetta “Sonia,” proved to be the outstanding musical achievement of the year. One of the most enjoyable and valuable events was the entrance of a group of pupils from the Music Department of Rutland High School in the Music Festival held in Athens April 17, 1936. The High School Choir furnished the music for the Baccalaureate Service and the High School Orchestra played for Commencement. Members of the Orchestra played in County Concepts at Chester, Syracuse, and at Rutlaud High School. Several students from the Instrumental Music Department played in the District Orchestra alt the Music Festival at Ohio University April 17, 1936. twenty-seven
