CLASS POEM We are the class of 49 Txs very plaln to see Other classes have come and gone But none as good as we When flrst we came to Ruthven Hlgh Vi e were as green as grass Greenhorns we heard them sxgh But now we re the Semor Class Twenty two of us there are And we surely make thmgs hum Peggy I arson the youngest in the class ls a happy go lucky brown eyed lass Nancy Taylor IS the next l ll tell about She s very quiet wxthout a doubt She also studles mght and day Trymg to keep those zeros away Barbara Smmonson IS a tall trrm gxrl Whose head was never 1n a wh1rl Shxrley Mlller wlth auburn ha1r In th1s world has but one care Vergene Rosewall 15 captamn of the boys basketball team And he teases the glrls just to hear them scream Norman Nelson IS just as bad as Vergene I-Ie s not too fat and not too lean He always dehghts m teasmg the g1r1s St1ck1ng them wlth plns or pullmg thelr curls If you can t see her you can hear her scream She s five feet four but that 1sn t tall She s a good sport and that xsn t all There s Ardlss Hynes she s very sedate Always was known to have a date She always studles and sometxmes plays And also has very pleasant ways There s Darlene Roland short but sweet ln a basketball game she s hard to beat She s very t1ny but oh my You ought to see her wmk her eye Tom Mason a good natured lad Has as few good hablts as others have bad On the basketball team he won lots of fame And every mmute Tom was m the game Merrlll Anderson IS a Jolly good chap lf he d flunk he d not gxve a snap As a preacher he might prove steady But to llsten to his sermons we are not quzte ready Dean Hughes the next In lme ls a very hard one to deflne Carries hard work for his b1a1n IS so strong That wmth more subjects he could well get along Jerome Plckett the next l ll descrlbe ls a boy that no one can brlbe lf a gxrl feeds hlm on flattery sweet He wears a smile that s hard to beat 19 Mildred Schnell is captain of the girls' basketball teamg

There IS a large tent m the park by the depot and as we glance down that way who should emerge from the entrance all dressed ln txghts and glxttermg spangles but Vergene Rosewall He IS the man on the flymg trapeeze with Dupe Em and Rupe Em Cxrcus What has happened to Darlene Roland? Is she not here yet? Oh yes over here she IS Everyone gathers closer and watches As the band strlkes up Dar lene goes xnto her Firefly Dance At present she 15 a dancmg mstructor ln Dzckens In the mxdst of all the confusxon a d11ap1dated old motorcycle wmth a sxdecar attached races up comes to a stop, and off hops Betty W1ll1s The szdecar is covered wxth a tarpaulm and somethmg under xt ts bobbmg up and down l1ke corks ln water It seems that Betty runs a cat hospltal down ln Tennessee and smce she could flnd no dependable cat s1tter she brought her patlents along to the con venhon Elwyn Mason steps up to greet us He halls from Atlantzc C1ty where he xs a judge zn the many beauty contests held there Easy work Elwyn but never let your eyes decewe you Beauty IS only skm deep We look up and behold an xmmaculately and expensxvely dressed young chxck whom we do not recogmze We demand to know h1s name and what h1s status m life IS to allow such extravagance He znforms us hls narne 1s Jerry Plckett and that he 1s a baby sltter m a m1d western c1ty He also tells us he IS very partxc ular that he prefers them from 16 to Z0 years of age We mzll around and run mto our old classmate Betty Gleason She tells us she IS a hon ta.mer xt 1s so much easler than tazrung wolves Here comes Rlchard Clasmg and he certaxnly IS 1ook1ng 1n the plnk as a beauty operator 1n Hollywood and just drools over the beautles His favorite job IS face llftmg toward h1s We are arnazed to learn that Mildred Schnell no longer hves IH good old U S A she owns and operates the Parlee Voo mght club m gay Paree France She has grown so strlctly Pans1an that when we see her xt 1sn t H1 there anymore it s Ooo La La We run mto Merrxll Anderson who was the bashful boy of our class and find that he has developed a wonderful Gxft of gab He xs workmg for a carmval company and IS now the barker 1n front of the Fat Lady s Tent John Eckley arrxves rather late all dressed ln cowboy regalla ten gallon hat jodphurs spurs and boots He tells us he IS runnmg a dude rance m Callfor ma and 15 catermg to the movle stars Wlth our acquamtances renewed and our hopes hfted we bxd each other goodbye B etty W 1111s 18 D ' I ' ' - on 1 . v - on .
