PROPHECY OF THE CLASS OF 49 Wxth mxngled tears and smxles the 1949 graduatxng class gathered to con gratulate and wzsh each other Godspeed on thexr Journey through hfe They also pledged to each other that no matter what thelr status m lxfe or xn what part of the globe they mxght l1ve that 1n ten years from then mn 1959 they would all trek back to thelr Alma Mater for a class reumon Well the ten years have elapsed and what do we see as we congregate near the Ruthven Hmgh School our desxgnated meetmg place 'P A Rolls Royce automobxle bearmg a New York lzcense drwes up and out rolls Nub Nelson scattermg leaflet and pamphlets challenglng anyone to a fxght In the last ten years he has become the undefeated heavy wefght champzon of the world Our attentxon IS dxrected to a poppmg bangmg squeakmg and grmdmg of brakes A wheezy Model T Ford comes to a stop and out steps Shlrley Mzller who 15 a travelmg photographer She has brought her carnera to photograph her class mates once agam A plane fhes over and h1gh xn the clouds we can detect a tmy figure balanc mg herself rn the door She adjusts her parachute then balls out and at long last jerks the rip cord Down to earth floats none other than Barbara Sunonson who IS the ace stunt woman of an aerial cxrcus Nancy Taylor arnved last evenmg and we see her walkmg toward us wzth all the confldence and assurance of one whose career IS a success We learn that she IS a Powers Model now lwmg xn New York Clty Of course you all know that to be a model your helght must be from fwe feet nme znches to su: feet and Nancy just f1lls the bxll A platform IS bemg burlt and when It IS completed up steps Ray Goddard Wzth hrs hammer he quiets the no1sy crowd and proceeds to demonstrate hls abil tty as an auctloneer He says he IS so good he can sell b1rd seed to a cuckoo clock We look around and fznd that Dean Hughes has arrived loaded down with books which he has brought along for reference Dean IS a professor in a glrls college He fmds that gxrls are quxte a problem thus he has a large amount of re search work to do wlule away Peggy Larson shakes hands wzth us and proudly d1splays her medals wh1ch reveal that she xs a noted swunmer Swunmlng the Enghsh Channel ln less tune than Gertrude Ederle has been her greatest achxevement Oh Here comes Ann Foster Her arnb1.t1.on 1n life has been fulfilled The pubhshers have accepted her fzrst novel The Case of the Missmg Head lt w1ll be on sale very soon We all run to greet Ardxss Hynes who as now Mrs Fat Cedarholm Ardmss can not shake hands w1th us because her hands are busy holdmg on to Pete and Re peat two mce lzttle cherubs Dons Jensen st11l lzves south of Ruthven She is now marrzed and her car IS full of crearn cans She and hubby Charley run a goat daxry Dor1s came to town to shxp out thexr weekly supply of goats mdk Ah At last Shxrley Saeuglmg arrwes She IS st1ll usmng that voxce of hers Sh1rley is not wrth Metropolltan Opera or Radfo but ms a warbler wxth Spzke .Tones Band We spy a very sedate young man For a few mmutes we just cannot recogmze hun he has changed so much lt ms Tommy Mason He tells us he 15 a preacher and hopes to do a number of us some good before he departs l 1 . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 1 . . . . f I I , . r n . . . , . . - . . r .
