The Hilltoppers started the 1974 season awe- somely, winning four straight. After a 15-0 tuneup win over McDowell, the Big Blue rolled over archrival East 13-7. j.G. Keeter had a fantastic night and the mighty Hill- topper defense com- pletely shut off the highly touted Cavalier offense. It was defense again in the next two games as the Hilltoppers smashed Burns 20-6 and inthe North Gaston game, the Hilltoppers shoved the opponents backward for -27 yards total of- fense. Central went to Chase with a 4-0 record, but turned in a lack- luster performance and came out with a disap- pointing 13-13 tie.
