The Council is composed of the repre- sentatives andpresidents of the four class- es. The p r e s id e nt , vice president, and secretary-treasurer of the stud e nt body are elected in the spring, before the end of school. The Council carries out the little praised jo bs of clean-up campaigns, evaluations, publishing of the telephone directories and the presentation of the honor system. -mm .i we ,. f 1 -if The door of membership into the Nation- al Honor Society is opened by scholarship, leadership, character and service. Membership into the N.H.S. is one of the highe st achievements anyone can obtain while at Central. Each year the club is in charge of two inductions. The fall cere- mony is f or the induction of seniors, and the sp ring ceremony is for the induction of juniors. Members of the Honor Society are always mindful of keeping the Torch of T ruth and Honor ever burning before them. Revision of the Blue and White Hand- book is the main project of the organi- zation. Each year also, the club sends delegates to the State Convention. Speaking of honor . . N.H.S. SKYLINER CAPTURES MEMORIES OF THE YEAR All right, ya'll haven't been working ! Don't tell anyone. Ask Jane. These remarks issuing from room 303 every Wednesday and Friday at activity period might not convey the right idea that a group of students and their advisor are working on the Skyliner. Layouts, pictures, copy and proofreading-these and many other things go into the publishing and editing ofthe annual. The reward for the late hours and hard work is the announcement, The Skyliners have arrived. Front Row: Ben Maree, Bill Pruitt, Cecil Harbison, Jason McDaniel. HILLTOPPER TRACES NEWS OF C.H.S. Wonder who the personalities of the month are. l hope there are lots of jokes. These are typical comments heard around Central a few days before the Hilltopper comes out. The paper staff consists of eighteen members who attempt to inform and entertain the students through eight publications of the Hilltopper. The staff does the writing, picture taking, and lay-- outs. The paper is then printed by the Spindale Sun. Through this experience, the staff becomes skilled in the field of journalism. 15 Helen Washburn, Sylvia Cash, Jane Worrell, Pat Cobb, Peggy Hill, Doris Lancaster, Herman Norville, Merreidth Sorrells, Mary Godfrey, Kay Burns. i . lf c lxgiii-tg ff , Q ' .5 , ff!-19 1 Q f M Lilian Fir st R ow: Boyce Searcy, Mack McEntire, Douglas Parton, Grover Flynn, Howard Parker, Sammy Camp, Coleman Noblit, Graham Sinclair, Herman Eplee, Frank Lattimore, Charles Sea rcy, Jerry Boone. NEW HOMEMAKING HCJRIZONS Live Wires is afitting name for the girls who belong to the Future Homemakers of America. The chapter is affiliated with the National F.H.A. Organization. The girls through local, state, and national projects work to improve personal, family, school, and community living. Refinishing furniture and buying new furniture for the Home Economics Department, making tra y favors for the hospital, visiting rest homes for the aged, learning a bout civil defense, and studying to beautify homes are a few of the many projects in which mem be r s of the club take part. A few of these projects in which members take part require money and some money is obtained by selling Christmas cards and wrapping paper. The social life of the girls is not forgotten. At the first of the year there is acokepartyfor the new members. The Christmas season brings the F.H.A. Christmas party which is a girl ask boy affair. Then there is the Mother-Daughter Banquet in March. Boys , girls who are members of the F.H.A. will make good wives in the future because now through the F.H.A. they are learning the responsibilities that go into making up a home. 19 awww First Row: Vivian Merchant, Brenda Morrow, Kay Hudgins, Dorthy Bailey, Nancy Bland, Joan Henderson, Rowena Bailey, Pat Wilson, Pat Hampton, Mary Lou Beal, Ann Jaines, Mary Helen Callahan, Gail Dimsdale, Brenda Laughter, Emily Hill, Mary Goodman, Ruby Byers, Peggy Hill, Gail Wilson.
