CLASS HISTORY F R ES HMAN The doors opened. The school year 1952- 1953 had begun. For some students it was just another school year, but for one group of eager students it wa s the beginning of a new phase in their education and social life. The Green Freshmen m et th e i r chal- lenges with a firm determination and the new- ness of high school soon wore off. At the first class meeting, with Mrs.Ruth Craft as sponsor, they elected Joe Browng President, Gary 'Greerg Vice-President,Jane Martin, Secretary-Treas- urer, and Mary Ann Culpepper as Representa- tive to the Student Council. When Mary Ann moved away. Rupert Marsh wa s elected to fill this vacancy. Mary Ann Culpepper was elected as Fresh- man sponsor for Homecoming Queen. For their pr oj e ct of the year they bought equipment for the infirmary. They paid for the equipment with profits gained fromapantomime presented to the student body. Later in the year the student body turned out for a hillbilly square dance given by the class. - SOPHOMORE Feeling a pa rt of Central now, the sopho- mores got into the swing of things by electing Gary Greerg President, Joe Brown: Vice-Pres- ident, Jane Turner, Secretary-Treasurer and Joe McDougal, Representative to the Student Council and Mrs. Grant Banksg Sponsor. The group readily took on the year's work aswell as the silliness ofnormal sophomores. At Homecoming the class elected Jean Yelton as Sophomore Attendant. The Sophomores also had the prize winning float in the Homecoming pa- rade. They originated the idea of box suppers at Central which provided for them the funds for the redecoration of the Teacher's Lounge. J UNIOR Jolly Juniors! Uppe r Classmen! It was unbelie vable, but true enough. The juniors, eager for the advancement, became busy making preparations for a happy, complete year. The capable le a d e r s of the Junior Class were La r ry Ke e te rg President, Gary Greer, Vice-President, Billie Rose Blankenship: Sec- retary-Treasurer and Bobby Mayse, Represen- tative to the Stude nt Council. Miss Margaret McKinney, a new teacher at Central, served as sponsor. Six Juniors were honored in Ykpril upon be- ing ind u c t e d into the National Honor Society. They we re Marian Kinzie, Gary Greer, Jane Martin, Larry Keeter, Bobby Mayse and Rupert Marsh. The industrious juniors undertook the sell- ing of magazines to support their project for the year. They bought black-out curtains and rub- ber mats for the auditorium. Music ln The Valley, the junior play, was such a success that a repeat performance was given by request. It Began With A Song, was the theme for the Junior-Senior Banquet. The Banquet and the play were two of the outstanding highlights of their junior year. Doris Davis was the junior sponsor for Homecoming Queen. A very special daywas the day they receiv- ed their class rings, the signification of upper classmen. SENIOR The dignity was p r e v a il in g in those who knew best and loved most the halls, classrooms, and friendly atmosphere of Central. Leading the now experienced seniors on the h ill to p was Jimmy Gray as President, Bobby Mayse, Vice-President, Ma ry Ann Briscoeg Secretary-Treasurer and Nelle Mauney, Perry White andJudyl-Iughey as Representatives to the Student Council. Mrs. W. B. Robertson was the class sponsor. In student body elections Larry Keeter was elected President. Billie Rose Blankenship was elected Secretary-Treasurer. Jane Martin and Melba Murphy, elected the preceeding year by the student body, served as editors of the annual and paper respectively. I n d u c t e d into the National Honor Society were Joe Brown, Madge Earley, Nelle Mauney, Max Huntley, Melba Murphy, Marvin McEntire, Jane Tanner, and Billie Rose Blankenship. Jane Martin was ele c ted to be the Senior Representative for Homecoming. The Se nior p1ay, By Any Other Name, was ve ry successful, financially and dramati- cally. Besides the play, the seniors made money by running the concession s ta nds for baseball and football games . It is a lm o st unbelievable that their high s chool days are at an end, but they have left their mark and will long be remembered.
