Art Club Brush up your memory! Do you recall the speech Gerry Tamblyn made in assembly on Egypt? The Art Club spurred him on. The bulletin boards have been kept up to par by various members, and an art exhibition of the work of local artists was held on May 10. The Masquers Among the year's achievements of The Masquers, the dramatic organi- zation of R. H. S., have been the presentation of The House with the Twisty Windows by Mary Parkington, a gay theater party in New York City, and a rollicking Kiddy Party. Latin Club Adsum-the password of the Latin Club. The club was Caesar on the spot in arranging an excursion to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Needed money has been raised by supplying basketball fans with candy, and a cake sale is in the ofling. The chief activity of the club has been the presenta- tion of stimulating programs concerning Ancient Rome. German Club Der Deutsche Verein is new, but it's here to stay. The Kaffee Klatsch proved that sometimes bragging is justified. The club would like to thank the mothers and adults who supported the now famous Kaffee Klatsch. Forty-eight 0 French Club Vive le Ccrcle Francais! Another step in the progress of the French Club was made when Sopho- mores and Juniors were admitted to the club for the first time. The star event of the year was a the-dansant in the gym. At Noel, a party was given for mem- bers. A delightful play, Les Voyages dc M. Pcrichon, was given in assembly. Commercial Club The Commercial Club came into the limelight when certificates were presented to its prize winners of the typing contest. Speakers, including some former R. H. S. students, have spoken on their personal experiences in the business world. Co-Y One of the duties of the Co-Y has been to rid us of our nickels by selling raffle tickets. The treasury was further swelled by a private cake sale. A part of this club fund will be used to frame the '34 graduation picture, as well as the long neglected ones of '32 and '33, Y-34 The Y-34 started off its year with a snappy initiation. Right away new members were set to work selling candy at a football game, the proceeds of which furnished turkey dinners for several poor families. Next came a bridge: then. a novel tea dance. The club plans to send a girl to camp this summer. Math Club The Math Club will long be remembered for its novel assembly pro- gram. The purpose of their meetings is to supplement the daily classroom work. A Salmagundi party is on the way. Do you play lotto? 0 F arty-nine The Spur The Spur, R. H. S.'s only paper, supplies us with all the school dirt, athletic news, and club whys and wherefores. Barthen does strange things to the Seniors in his caricatures which enliven the peppy interviews. The Spur is our bi-monthly official record of school activities. Girls' A. A. Council Fifteen members comprise the council-five from each class. These representatives draw up the rules which govern girls' athletics. Do you remem- ber the dogs at the Circus? The Girls' A. A. Council posed as those cute animals. Executive Council The Executive Council, consisting of seven Seniors, three Juniors, two Sophomores, and two faculty advisers, Mr. Papenfus and Mr. Stone, is the Administrative Board of the General Organization. Besides taking care of the regular routine work, the Council has sponsored two exceptionally line Sophof more Socials and has made plans for the annual G. O. Prom. Service League Stop whistling! Stop talking! The Service League is on hall duty. This organization, made up of class representatives, supplied the library with magazines and papers for students with time on their hands. After taking a licking from East Rutherford's fast eleven, the boys beat Cliffside Park, 37-0, only to forfeit the game because a player was ineligible under N. N. J. I. L. rules. The boys played gamely, but the cham- pionship stayed just out of reach. The great surprise came when Passaic scored a touchdown in the first five minutes of the Thanksgiving game and stole the dinner, 7-0. Although his team didn't bring home the bacon. The Seniors were victorious over the Sophomores and, under the spirited coaching of Miss Park, overpowered the Juniors 1-0. when the tie game was played off. Marshall and Rose, the captainsg Chreckjian. who scored the only point in that exciting play-off, Stenz. and Molitoriss were the most valuable players. Soccer was the next sport to take the time and enthusiasm of the athletes. Again the Seniors were the winners-this time under the coaching of capable Marge Stenz, with Guidone and Chreckjian as captains: Seniors l-Juniors 0: Seniors l-Sophomores 0. Besides the two captains, I-lorstman and Callejo were among the best soccerites. Witlu Razzetti. Horstman, Guidone, and Chreckjian as the team's main- stay, the Seniors put up a splendid fight: but they lost all the games of the basketball season. Approaching graduation has evidently had something to do with the sudden drop in the number of girls participating in the current sports. For at this time only eleven girls have signed up for baseball and track. 0 Fifty-nine l JUNIOR ATHLETICS NDER the captainship of Diener and Tindall the Juniors gave the Seniors some uneasy moments during that first hockey game. Even in the game played to settle the tie. they put up a grand fight and refused to be beaten by more than one point. The Sophomore A's and B's were both de- feated by the Juniors l-0. Badaracco, Tindall, Williams, Diener, and Lindley played line games. Next came soccer with Diener and Tindall as coaches. and Huber and Hunt doing the captaining. After being downed by the Seniors. the Juniors overcame the Sophomores 2-l in a well-played game. l-lunt, Jaeger, Huber. and Anderson were the most useful players. At basketball the Juniors were unconquerablef They vanquished the Seniors '57-6 and overwhelmed the Sophs 3l-l l, Captain Chichester led the scoring with 45 points in the two games. Badaracco, Eyster, Captain Steuber. and l,indley were all great assets to their team. So far Hfty-six Juniors have signed up for baseball and track. Will they continue their winning streak? Sixty o SOPHOMORE ATHLETICS HE Sophomore girls started their athletic career in R. H. S. by coming out for hockey in such a big way that they had to be divided into two teams-the Soph A's and the Soph B's. The first attempts of both teams were frustrated by the Juniors. The B's scored a point against the Seniors only to be downed by the A's l-O. Ross, Palmer, Horn, and Welch, the captains, French. and Chase showed us all what a bunch of good sports the Sophs are! The next sport the Sophomores tried their skill at was soccer. Although the Seniors were victorious over them by 1-0, and the Juniors by 2-1, they will undoubtedly develop into splendid material by next year. E. Rose and L. Williams coached while Oliver and Rogers directed. A very exciting and hard-fought basketball game between the Sopho- mores and the Seniors resulted in the downfall of the Seniors to the score of 21-18. Wliat a game! Congratulations, Sophomores!! Banninga, Chase, Palmer, and Lewis spurred their team on to victory. Up to date sixty-three Sophomores have reported for baseball and track. There's no stopping these Sophomores! V As this goes to press, nothing definite has been done about tennis. Plans have been made for organizing teams, but the Hnal outcome will depend upon tinances. 0 Sf.Yf'V-0710 gf ,.. And I Saluted her pleasantly, and said, Good Morning, My Dear! For I have known her since she was Knee High, and regard her with Affection. And she Saluted me Gravely. And I said, Why are thou Sad? And she said, Graduation day is only two Weeks off, and. verily, I am in the Dumps. And I inquired, How Come? And she made Answer, If I were going to College, Everything would be O. K. But as is, it's not so Hot. For I must hie me to New York or to some other Burg and find me a Job, and there be no Jobs for Green Horns. There is Nothing I can do. And I said, Indeed thou art not Green, unless I be Color Blind, nor hast thou Horns, if I know a Horn when I see One. Hast thou found Nothing in School that thou couldst do Well? Did thy Parents many times receive Gas Bills in token of thy Inability? And she said, Nay, my Work was Passing and then Some. And I inquired, Hast thou found School to be a Friendless place? And she said, Nay, I have many Friends--and leaving them maketh my Heart Heavy and mine Eyes Damp. And as we Walked together we drew nigh unto Wahler's, the House of Refreshment, and I discovered in the Maiden and in Me an earnest Longing for an Ice-Cream Sundae, for the day was a Sizzler. So we entered therein, and the Maiden chose Vanilla, and I Chocolate. And when we had got the best of our Sundaes, I said unto her, 'lThou sayest that going into the World is not so Hot, and thou speakest Truth, for the World is sometimes as Hard and Cold as thine Ice-Cream Sundae. But didst thou nnd great Difficulty in bringing thy Sundae to Terms? And the Maiden laughed, and she said, Nay, I took one good look at it, and delved in, and ere long, as thou canst see with a Half Eye, it was gone. And I said unto her, Thou must treat the World as thou didst the Sundae. For as thou doest Skillfully take the Spoon of Knowledge and dost on thine own Hook fall to, and art Patient and Persistent, taking it into the Warmth of Thyself, it will Melt for Thee, and thou wilt find that the Tasks of Life are like unto Ice:Cream Sundaes. And she said, I understand what thou Meanest: If I play the Game. I need not Dread the World. I Thank Thee, for thou hast Hit my Nail on its Head: but, she added with a Look of Mischief, I hope these Life Sundaes. about which thou hast Taught me, will be of a Size Greater than that which I have Circumscribed with such exceeding great Pleasure. Whereupon I took the Hint, and we straightway Dissolved, each of us, a Sundae. To her was given one of Chocolate and Nuts, and unto me one of a Fruit called Strawberry.
