BASKETBALL . 2 nnmy llurke Max Kamm f'Monkey Feldman The l.ittle Scarlet, once again car- ried on it's winning ways by compiling a ll-ll record. Over the past five years Prep has piled up a really admirable 06-138 win lost record, which ranks among the county's best. Although this was far from the best record the boys have had, they did pile up some impressive victories. 'l'hey easily out distanced a scrappy Newark-Rutgers quintet, and also piled up their highest point output ofthe year by thoroughly trouncing Admiral Far- ragut, 96-77. As usual, Prep displayed quite an array ofoutstanding ball players. Ronnie Iackowilz and .jim Murray ran second and third in county scoring while Andy Piscatelli chipped in with some excellent defensive and offensive work as well as being the top reboundcr. Wlhile averaging 22 counters a game, Ronnie broke the magic 1000 point mark for his three year high school basketball career. Starting the season with an easy 00-55 victory over St. Mary's of South Amboy, Prep dropped their next game to the lowering Peddie school quintet. Despite the 015-70 score, this was perhaps Prep's liest all around court showing ofthe year. l,itlle 0' 2 Ronglackowitz managed to outseore Peddie's 6' 8 all-stater Doug Kistler, and fi' 7 Dan Berry, by throwing in 29 points. Jimmy Murray also had a fine day by cutting the cords for 26 counters. Traveling down to Pennington, the l.ittle Scarlet seemed to have the ballgame well in hand by entering the fourth quar- ter with a 9 point margin over Penn- ington's first class ball club. but loose de- fensive work and little drive on the offensive helped Pennington overcome the deficit and go ahead to win by a 78-70 count. The O,Connellmen should have added at least two more knotchcs to their gun if it had not been for poor perfor- mances against Admiral Farra-gut and South River. The best local team that Prep faced was a well-rounded, well- drilled Sayreville squad which easily dumped the loose playing Prepsters by a 70-48 count. This year's squad which was rounded out bvjoe Messina, Bruce Gunkle, Mon- key Feldman, and -lim Burke, went on to the finals ofthe Group III Prep School Tournament only to be upset by Admiral Farragut, 67-64.
