Although the Advanced Chem Club had been in existence for two years, this was the first year that it had been successful. The mem- bership was confined to persons who had taken chemistry before. The club consisted of nine members. They were Alan Rackmillhlohn Maffett, Mar- tin Bertman, Merle Schiffmayer, Sharon Ries, Aaron Medinets, Nancy Haworth, Ed Otken, and Richard Schwartz. The elections for officers were held at the beginning and end of the first semester. Pre- siding as president the first semester was Richard Schwartz, with Merle Schiffmayer elected as-'vice president. The second semester the club elected Marty Bertman and Ed Otken Advanced Chem Club Members Watch Experiment Bertman, Schiffmayer, Maffett, Haworth. Van Degraff Medinets. ADVANCED CHEM CLUB president and vice president respectfully. During the first semester, t e club worked diligently in presenting a play which was en- titled All Wet. It was presented to the Sci- ence Club and the Chemistry Club during activities period. Alan Rackmill starred in the role of Phineas T. Vaccuum, and he was assisted by his famous German colleague Herr T.U. Tonik played by Ed Otken. Some of the experiments involved in the play were: the mutation of water from one color to another by a few magic words, in- flammable ice, hard water, and explosive soap bubbles. During the second semester many trips were taken to various chemical industries.
