The Maroon and XVhite suffered losses to Peddie School, Pennington Prep, and Lawrenceville in the next three encounters. The only bright spot in these games was the spectacular scoring of jack Bergen. The Little Scarlet was partly compensated for these defeats by an easy victory of -15--I0 over Brooklyn Poly- technical Institute, which was on Prep's schedule for the first time. The game was highlighted by the exceptional foul shooting of the Maroon and XVhite, who converted 23 out of 33 free throw attempts. Losses to the highly rated St. Maryls team of South Amboy, a fast Highland Park array, and to the hot Newark Academy quintet left the Prepsters with a record of two wins and eight losses. To add to Coach Housman's troubles, john Zinevich and joe Collins, two of his outstanding players, were forced to leave the team. Prep's reshuffled line-up with Dick Horvath and Bay Braender at the fore- ward and guard positions respectively, routed Montclair Academy, 52-43, to se- cure their third win. Behind 8-7, the Little Scarlet poured 2:2 points into the hoop during the second period to assume a 29-15 lead at half-time. Dick Horvath paced the squad with 19 tallies. In one of the most exciting games of the season, St. Benedictls Prep barely defeated the Little Scarlet, 60-58, on a pair of fouls by Bob Malkmus in the last ten seconds of play. Trailing 47-42 at the end of the third period, the Maroon and XVhite staged a spirited rally to close the gap to 58-56. VVith 20 seconds re- maning, the Saints attempted to freeze the ball, but the Prepsters took posses- sion and knotted the score 58-58 on a set shot by joe Fisher. A few seconds later the fatal foul was committed, and the conversion of two free throws by Malkmus dashed the Maroon and NVhite,s hopes. The Little Scarlet won two out of their next three contests by defeating Hun School twice and losing to St. Mary's of South Amboy. The finale of the season was a dismal one when Coach Housman's quintet was snowed under by a towering Blair Academy squad. The Blairstowners moved into a 1-1-4 first period lead and then coasted the rest of the way. Only the highlights along with the scoring facts concerning the games of the season have been brought to the fore in this article. XVhat cannot be expressed by such an account is the amount of effort any team expends in a contest, whether they emerge victor or vanquished. The Prepsters have exhibited their spirit in a fine way during the past season.
