Making their home debut. the Prep eleven lived up to all predictions by trounc- ing Bordentown Nlilitary Institute 15-0 to gain their third straight win. In the second period the Prepste1's started a 60 yard march. which resulted in Diffs breaking away for a 15 yard touchdown run. jim Egloffs placement was good. and Prep led 9-0 at half-time. The Little Scarlet scored their final touchdown when liay Braender slashed around right end and galloped T6 yards for the tally. The Prepsters had a field day in the scoring department when they defeated St. Paufs School of Long Island, as seven members of the Prep Squad went over for touchdowns. Hoy Dill plunged over to start the scoring parade. Hay Braender intercepted a St. Paul pass and raced to their 28 yard line, and on the next play Prep quarter back Nlarshall XVood flipped to Braender in the end zone for an- other score. ln the second quarter joe Durkin cracked over right tackle to make the score 20-0. A few moments later a pass from XVood to Egloff was good to St. Pauls 30 yard line. As Egloff was being downed, he threw a lateral pass to Prep lines- man Bill Keener, who raced into the end zone for the tally. just before the first half ended. YVood intercepted a St. Paul pass and raced 40 yards for another touchdown. making the score 27-0 at half-time. In the final stanza Prep left half. john Hess. plunged from the 2 yard line to score. Dave La-Nlieux, Prep right half. ended the scoring spree by romping 30 yards after a pass interception. By defeating the Newark eleven 13-6 on November 19, the Little Scarlet broke the fifteen year jinx which Newark Academy had held over them. Prepis final game of the season and its fifth consecutive victory. the Newark game was the most cherished of the entire campaign for both the team and the coaches. llampered by had weather. both football machines had trouble in getting started. Prepis terrific goal line stand for four plays was one of the most impor- tant factors in the resulting victory. In the third period the Academy reeled off two long gains to put the ball on the Prep 6 yard stripe. On the fourth down Ernie Scarpa. Newarkls senational running back. plunged over to put Newark ahead 6-0. Going into the fourth quarter with their backs to the wall. the Prepsters re- taliated quickly. YVith jim Egloff moving the ball down to the Newark 30 on a 20 yard pass gain. llay Braender and Hoy Dill moved on short driving gains to the Newark 15 yard lineg from there Braender scampered over to knot the score 6-6. Egloff's conversion was goodg Prep was ahead T-0, NVith four miutes remaining. Egloff intercepted an Academy pass and brought it to the Newark 10 yard line. Braender. on three concentrated plays. fought his way through and plunged over on fourth down to assure Newarlcs defeat. 13-6. One of the greatest victories ever to be won by a Prep squad oc- curred that afternoon. .Xt the football banquet on December 13. Harvey llarman. head football coach at Rutgers University. sununed up the season by saying that considering Rutgers Prep's schedule. the team played with magnificent cou1'age and ability. Their record is a tribute to the coaching. to the team. and to its spirit!
