This season, Coach A. Z. Holley has one of the best balanced teams he has had in several seasons. Thus far. the infield shapes up with Cookie Young at first, jack Powers and VValt Kloss protecting second base, and lumbering joe 'Ianuszewski at third base. This year's catching staff is one of the strongest in the area. Larry Ilannon and Dick Hochman, both equal in experience and ability, will be sharing the baekstopping throughout the 1948 season. The outfield is also full of experience with joe Bradshaw, john Carboski, Tom Beaudette, and john Marder. The big question is, as always, the pitching staff. This big question will be answered on Friday, April sixteenth, when they play Hun School. This year's pitching corps is comprised of Dick NVarden, Hal Lefty Coyne, john llines, Arnie Rettig. and Bugs Gellatly. HUN SCHOOL - 2 RUTCERS PREP - 0 Sandy Buck, llun Schools lanky fireball right-hander, spoiled R. Pfs 1948 diamond debut as he pitched a neat five inning, one-hit shutout to lead the Princeton nine to a 2-0 conquest of the Prepsters. Scoring single runs in each of the first two innings, Hun was never seriously threatened by a squad whose batting was definitely not keen. RUTCERS PREP - 8 HIGHLAND PARK - 6 A good night's sleep, apparently, is the best cure for a batting ailment. For the morning after the Ilun School game Rutgers Prep wrote its initial victory of the 1948 baseball campaign into the record books. The Red and XV'hite, meeting the offerings of Larry YVolk and Ted Schmidt for six solid base-knocks and taking advantage of the loose fielding of Highland Park's Owls, scored seven runs in the first two innings to emerge with an S-6 triumph. The strong wind was anything but conducive to good Gelding and pitching, but in spite of' this Dick YVarden set down ten men on strikes.
