My medical career began with the MCATs on a sunny day in May of 1968 with What is TASS? My answer was not one of those offered. After having lit a candle at St. Patrick's cathedral on the evening of December 24, 1968 at 8:00 in the morning. My parents celebrated with Asti Spumanti over breakfast: I turned over and went back to sleep. Twenty-thousand dollars later, and I now know which way the earpieces on my stethescope should point. I'd like to thank my parents for paying for eight years of higher education, and most of the RMS faculty especially the clinicians for their concern. Special good luck wishes to Ray, Patsy, Curt, Mary, Charis, Mat, and Terry-in many ways the best of our class. JOSEPH CATAPANO ROBERT R. CHVALA T7 . DONALD F. DERSE ...L '- -- A -67:51 V1 STEPHEN COOK . . 1 r ' I 1 W .E It is a singular honor for any person to be entrusted with the health and welfare of others. To me has been given a double honor-the trust of a person's health and welfare, as well as their being as a child of God. That honor is not taken lightly. It is one that places me in perpetual gratitude- to God-for setting me free to be , for equipping me with basic tools to use for the sake of others. to Park United Methodist Church-for supporting a part-time pastor with encouragement, grace, and understanding as I studied medicine. to My Wife and Children-for enduring undeserved hardship with true joy and dedication. to Rutgers Medical School-for having the courage to take a chance on me, and for refining the basic tools of my life which allow me to assume the honor of being called - Physician . and finally, to My Fellow Students-for allowing me to share our common hopes, trials, pains, and joys. 80
