Edztws Message: We at RHS maintain a monopoly of fine school tradi- tion - academically, athletically, and socially. This monopoly was not built by one class in one year, but by every person that has ever attended Ruston High. This school today represents the loyalty, hard work and school spirit of both the students and faculty before us. We, the present day students at RHS, strive to maintain the standards typical of a true Bearcat. As freshmen, the seniors of '77 came to RHS to find it in turmoilg they leave us in serenity. As high school students we are influenced by many different philosophies, but we must decide for ourselves which ones will shape our ideals and our lives. The students, the teachers, the classes, the clubs, the pep-rallies, the ballgames, and the honors all combine to make up a school year. In this edition of the RESUME' , we have tried to capture all of these. As you reflect upon them, hopefully you will see your contribution to RHS's monopoly on fine school tradition. A. Bubofwmwv The Bearcats opened their 1976 campaign against a powerful luad A opponent Ouachita. The 'Cats determined for a successful eason, were victorious on their first contest against the Lions. luston won the game 13-7 with two touchdown runs by junior half- mack Lennard Jones. Ruston traveled to Shreveport to play Byrd for the second contest, md in a flooding down-pour of rain, the 'Cats deadlocked with the fellow Jackets at 0-0. Neither team was able to generate any mffense in the rainy battle, but the 'Cat defense was highlighted by wo of the best defensive ends in the state, Johnny Robinson and Darrin Washington. Also outstanding in their defensive efforts were lhillip Passon, David Passon and Fletcher Scott. Ruston's all time rival, Neville. marked another victory in the nooks for the Tigers. Ruston scored on a touchdown reception from Pom Jones to Gordy Woods and Darrin Washington intercepted a Tiger screen pass for the 'Cats other TD, but two was not enough. With hopes for a play-off berth the 'Cats traveled to North Caddo 'or their first District clash. Ruston was victorious in a fine defen- Eive game. The 'Cats second tie-game of the season came in against the Crimson Tide of Minden. Johnny Robinson, defensive end, inter- :epted a Minden option pitch and high stepped 45 yards for the 'Cats only score. L Disappointed with a 2-2-1 record for the first half of the season, Ruston was then faced with the defending state champs of AAA football, the Jesuit Blue Flyers. In an outstanding effort, the 'Cats lost 10-3. , Springhill led Ruston 13-0 at half time in another district con- fest. Determined to win, the 'Cats came back and rolled over the lsumberjacks in the second half when sophomore running back James Robinson brought the crowd to its feet. Cold, cold, cold could best describe the night when the West Monroe Rebels came to town and put the freeze on Ruston. Still in hopes of a play-off berth, a MUST game was upon Ruston. With peep desires for victory, Ruston shot the Northwood Falcons down 518-0 leaving only one game to win for a play-off spot. J l J f , QM... J- ' -su-..
