che Owl Try to remember ... when the OWL first became the symbol for Rustburg High School, The original owl was shot by Mr. Bob Coleman in 1928 on what is now the Wisecarver Farm, The owl was mounted by Evans Tweedy and sat for many years on the Principal's desk as a symbol of wis- dom. It now appears on the class rings and is the school symbol. The year- book is named appropriately The OWL,

We, the graduating class of 1971, are very proud to dedicate our yearbook to a man whom we’ve known for only a short time; but during this short period of time we have come to trust, respect, and admire him for his neverceasing eagerness and will- ingness to help. He has served us in sports, guid- ance, and in teaching, and is a constant inspiration to all who know him. We dedicate the 1971 OWL to MR, FOREST JONES
