Try to remember the kind of September when ... our lockers would get jammed and for fear of being late we left the book we needed. We waited until the last minute to study for that Biology test which would give us our six-weeks grades. We, as Juniors, received newly designed rings. Now we are Seniors, and this is probably the most exciting year thus far in our lives. Try to remember and if you remember, then 2 Smaps. eae) WRN, MR, FOREST JONES B.S, degree Livingston Collége We, the graduating class of 1971, are very proud to dedicate our yearbook to a man whom we’ve known for only a short time; but during this short period of time we have come to trust, respect, and admire him for his neverceasing eagerness and will- ingness to help. He has served us in sports, guid- ance, and in teaching, and is a constant inspiration to all who know him. We dedicate the 1971 OWL to MR, FOREST JONES che Owl Try to remember ... when the OWL first became the symbol for Rustburg High School, The original owl was shot by Mr. Bob Coleman in 1928 on what is now the Wisecarver Farm, The owl was mounted by Evans Tweedy and sat for many years on the Principal's desk as a symbol of wis- dom. It now appears on the class rings and is the school symbol. It was a year of excitement as we changed to adapt ourselves to this new life. Our class officers were: Betty Brandt, President; Orlando Mason, Vice-President; Lois Torrence, Secretary-Treasurer; Steve Lancaster, Historian; and Chuck Flowers, Reporter. Our sponsors were Mr. Dufford, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Lacks, Mrs. Hicks, Mrs. Christian, and Mr. Wade. The next year we had a real name to call ourselves - freshmen. We now had an interest in sports and organizations. Our officers were Wanda Carwile, President; Susan Pugh, Vice- President; Betty Brandt, Secretary; and Bonnie Boteler, Treasurer. Our sponsors were Miss Spencer, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Greene, and Mr. Burnette. In our sophomore year, we were in a middle class. We were upper classmen to some, but under classmen to others. Our studies were becoming harder, and there was a growing interest in extracurricular activities. Our class officers were Sam Jones, President; Darrell Bradley, Vice-President; Carolyn Skinnell, Secretary; and Bo Frazier, Treasurer. Our class sponsors were Miss Hobgood, Mrs. Bugg, and Mr. and Mrs. Reichard. The fall of 1969 marked a great change in Rustburg High School. As students from other schools joined Rustburg High, new friends were made, and a spirit of cooperation spread among our fellow juniors. We began thinking about colleges and careers. Our class rings, made in a new style, were received in May. Our officers for the junior year were Cal John- son, President; Gary Reyonlds, Vice-President; Judy Babcock, Secretary; and Betty Brandt, Treasurer. Our sponsors were Mr. Dictor, Miss Bragassa, Mr. Skinner, Miss Davis, Mrs. Hicks, Mr. Jones and Mrs. Thomas. Now we are Seniors. We have finally reached the top. Our class officers are Kenneth Eagle, Presidént; Herman Carter, Vice-President; Mona Freeman, Secretary; Sam Jones, Treasurer; Pee Wee Jefferson, Reporter; Julia Scrogham, Historian; and Sherry Jamerson, Chaplain. Our sponsors are Mrs. Davis, Mr. Brown, Mrs. Hall, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Bugg, and Mr. Carpenter. As we near the end of the best five years of our lives, we look forward to that one night in June, 1971 when we will leave Rustburg High School, forever remembering what a help and a joy it was to us. 45 JULIA ELEN SCROGHAM SAMUEL MOSLEY JONES Cop Cen Scholars GLENN ELDRIDGE JEFFERSON, JR, REBECCA SUE MOODY 46 REBECCA FAITH JORDAN NANCY LYNNE HOCKETT CYNTHIA DAWN BURKS MONA GREY FREEMAN CLARENCE WILLIAM GOFF DAVID RICHARD AUSTIN 47 Who's Who Ml 197] at j et 3 é reg ag ia , ey TEACHER'S PETS - Cal and Nancy ioctl TYPICAL SENIOR - Booby and Lois ay MOST POPULAR - Gary and Sherry 48 MOST COURTEOUS - Bill and Judy Ernest : eye —e Sop a Allen CUTEST COUPLE Cindy Cynthia QUIETEST Robbie 49 Debbie CLASS CLOWNS Kenneth Julia MOST STUDIOUS Richard ec igre mesma AED li Pa © Wand FLIRTIEST Cecil Glenn MOST LIKELY TOSUCCEED Julia Selbehs yt Danny MOST SCHOOL SPIRITED Betty 50 “hess = Gal Kenneth CRA ZIES T Mona og HO PARK.
