This is especially true for this year’s Senior Class. For four years each of us has given much hard work, energy, and love to this school, all in preparation for this ‘‘special’’ year. But now that our time to leave RHS has come, the quiet serenity of these corridors compel us to remember days gone by: Home- coming, that championship basketball game, Senior Day, Class Night, the perpetual noontime rush to the cafeteria, pep rallies and hoarse voices, exams, government class, that special ‘‘some- one,’’ our favorite teachers, All this we remember, and much more, But these halls also remind us to think ahead, to plan, to achieve, for we must pass through a longer and more difficult one, the hall of life. Soon we shall be going separate ways: each of us finding his rightful place in the world. As time and space intervene, we will drift further and further apart. Then our 1967 Owl will become our ‘‘magic carpet’’--as we dreamily turn the pages we shall find ourselves once more strolling the halls of RHS, hearing the chatter, the laughter, the shouts; dreading the up- coming test; anticipating the lunch bell, the big game, the special assembly, the Easter vaca- tion; remembering oid familiar faces; the classes, the books, the chalk dust, bulletin boards, the tests, the parties---everything that made up our years at RHS. Miss Anne Bragassa ane $8 . ac Bat Ca ei ee amie Dedication Because they have given so generously of their time, their energy, and their talents whenever called upon; Because they have contributed immeasurably to making Rustburg High the wonderful school it is; and because they have added zest, spice, and charm to every phase of school life, the 1967 OWL Staff and Senior Class want to express our sincere appreciation by dedicating our 1967 Yearbook to two of the most lovable persons who ever walked our way -- Miss Bell and Miss Bragassa This picture proves that they can be .... Every student at Rustburg High School is a member of the Student Cooperative Association, a form of student government. The SCA endeavors to promote the general welfare of the student body by striving to establish a harmonious relationship between the students and the faculty, to develop leadership and responsibility, and to train the students in the principles of self-government. The Student Council, composed of representatives of the student body, works closely with the adminis- tration in solving problems outside the classroom, The SCA is a very active organization and sponsors many activities which have proven beneficial to the school. Each fall the SCA gives a Student-Teacher Reception for new students and faculty members and sponsors Homecoming activities. During the Christmas season, the Student Council decorates the school, presents an entertaining assembly program, and sponsors homeroom parties. As a service project to the community this year, the SCA is planning to send food, books, and other useful items to our service men in Viet Nam for the Easter season, By looking at a few of the SCA’s activities, the value of such an organization within the school can be seen, ahudra Sandra Owen, President Student Marshals Betsy Phillips Patrice King Biff Gilliam Roberta Arthur Cheryl Johnson Judy McKinney Ray Jones Paul Baity Royal Dawson Sammy Hankins Sandra and Mr, Moorman lead assembly program In Action Tank and Tommy in Honor assembly ???? When the 8:50 bell rang, we followed the milling, chatter- ing mass of upperclassmen into the gymnasium, Such a racket until Mr, Hege walked upon the stage! Everyone quieted down for announcements: we were to listen for our names to be called and then go with whoever called our name. Finally Mr. Moorman called for the eighth grade home room teachers, Mr, Carrol Shotwell, Mr. Frank Greene, and Mr, James Wingfield stood up and called out names until the last one of us had been assigned to a homeroom, The three homeroom teachers were to be our sponsors for the year, also, At our first class meeting we elected the following officers: Cindy Withers, presi- dent; Sandra Owen, vice-president; Fred Cox, secretary; Janet Garner, treasurer; Colen Davidson, re- porter; Lucille Hight, historian; and Phillip Ragland, chaplain. Early in the year the SCA gave a recep- tion for all eighth graders and all new members to the faculty. On Arbor Day the eighth grade planted a group of White Pines around our water tower. A feeling of “esprit de corps prompted us to put all our names in a bottle and plant the bottle at the base of one of the trees, By the time we were freshmen we had lost nineteen of our original group. This year our homeroom teachers and sponsors were Mrs. Gwen Johnson, Mrs. Gloria Springer, Mrs, Billie Fennimore, and Mrs. Carolyn Doyle. We elected Cindy Withers, president; Tommie Perrow, vice-president; Sandra Owen, secretary; Haywood McCrickard, treasurer; Phillip Ragland, reporter; and Patsy Johnson, historian, On Arbor Day this year we planted trees along the bank of the athletic field. There were one hundred thirteen of us enrolled in the tenth grade. We had Mr. Rhodes, Mrs, Fennimore, Miss Bragassa, and Miss White for sponsors, Our class officers this year were: Tommie Perrow, president; Sandra Owen, vice-president; Nancy Scrogham, secretary; Cornell Murphy, treasurer; Janet Garner, re- porter; and Patsy Johnson, historian. Instead of having Arbor Day this year we had clean-up day. Our class cleaned the grounds directly behind the high school building and along the drive beside the school, And then there were ninety-three! A happy ninety-three because our junior year was one we had been anticipating. This year our sponsors were Miss Bragassa, Mrs, Middlebrooks, Mrs, Hall, and Mr. Fletcher. Our officers were Haywood McCrickard, president; Randy Hooper, vice-president; Elizabeth Gillam, sec- retary; Royal Dawson, treasurer; and Steve Wade, reporter. Our junior year proved to be a busy one. This was the year we ordered our class rings, This was the year we played a big part in the Seniors’ Class Night. Remember the party at Janet Garner's house afterwards? The food? The dancing? And the boys playing football in their good suits! The senior class invited all the juniors to their Senior Prom at the Homestead, Those who did go had a wonderful time - in fact, some thought the juniors had more fun than the seniors, The moment is here at jast! We are finally Seniors. We enter our Senior year with a class of 87 members, Our sponsors are Mrs, Drinkard, Mrs. Davis, Miss White, and Mr. Mason. Our Senior officers are Janet Garner, president; Russeil Driskill, v. president; Sally Cooper, secretary; Judy McKinney, treasurer; Tommy Perrow, historian; Mike Dalton, Chaplain; Colen Davidson, parliamentarian. Next came that long awaited moment! We finally received our class rings in a special assembly after the long months of waiting. Now we really felt like Seniors! Then it was time for our Senior play. Our class presented The Skeleton Walks directed by Mr. Mason. It was quite a play! We are leaving as a gift to our school a bulletin board for the front lawn, In the years to come when we drive by, we will have an instant re- minder of our last year atR.H.S, The Senior Prom, Class Night, Baccalaureate Service, and GRADU- ATION will always hold a very special place in our minds, The saga of our Senior year is printed on the pages of our 1967 yearbook. --Thomas Perrow, Class Historian Romy DIRECTORY OF ADVERTISEMENTS A.
