oh WY secant faat) i a w a cae ee jon! Jp Ane } dpe Mary lo, 1, F G 2ars THE OWL Rustburg High School Foreword THIS IS RUSTBURG HIGH SCHOOL . . « strong hands that lead us . . . the cheerleaders’ faces as they cheer our team t o victory ... the battle to win... the fellowship of stu- dents . . . and the final rest following many fruitful years. These are just a few of the things that linger forever in our memories of school; each one has its own special meaning for every individual. In the years to come when this book is opened and the memories of our school days are refreshed, let us proudly say: ‘In learning I have labored hard, and had a lot of fun, I’ll give my thanks to Rustburg High, In all the years to come.”’ Table of Contents DEDICATION ANNUAL STAFF ADMINISTRATION FACULTY, OFFICE FORCES CLASSES ORGANIZATIONS ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS FAVORITES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADVERTISING In Deep Appreciation As we--the Senior Class-- approach the end of these guided years of work, we face the unknown way before us and sense the call of dedication to those things that are noble, just, and true. The dedication of this yearbook is our way of expressing our deep and sincere appreciation to a man who so richly deserves it. In the few years that he has been a member of the faculty of RHS, he has been a devoted teacher. Yet the thing we love most about this man is the fact that he is never too busy to sit down and help any student who comes to him with a problem, With the affirmation of ourselves to the principles which such a man has worked so faithfully to instill in us, we now dedicate The 1965 OWL to Mr, Franklin Greene III, Hard, Hard Work, and a Yearbook Is Born With the wonderful aid of its sponsor, Mrs, Clara Drinkard, the Owl Staff got under way in September to tell the complete story of the 1965 school year in pictures and words, The staff hopes it has captured memories that will last for a lifetime. Members of the staff begin a vigorous yearbook sale by displaying bright posters, Editor Sue Huber and Business Manager Sharon Davidson pause for a refresher. Our Principal ‘“‘There’s a time for some things, and a time for all things; a time for great things, and a t ime for small things.”’ Cervantes, Don Quixote, Part II, Book III This year of your graduation is a great time for each of you, It is a time signifying an end to one part of your life and commencing another which will be enriched and fortified by your experiences at Rustburg High School, My sincerest hope is that from your high school days has come the ability to recognize the great and the small things and to give each its proper consideration in your life. Only by giving our utmost to all things - great and small in their proper proportion - may we achieve the satisrying life that I wish for each member of a Hex, the Class of 1965, Guiding Hands MR. Why must you wreck my world? What was this thing? Pierced ears, How can you, Dad, deny me two small holes equipped with pearls? Few were quite successful. The rest, alas, soon knew That they were doomed to wear fake pearls, stuck on with good, strong glue! - Betsy Phillips '68 NOVEMBER November is loveliness; Not as spring perhaps, but loveliness in a different form. There is beauty in her clouded skies, in her multicolored floor, in her near-barren trees where dying leaflets cling to their first and last hope for life. November is loveliness; Not the lustrous green and sweet loveliness of the maiden spring, But the loveliness that comes with having experienced growth and life, and the beauty that comes with awaiting that last fleeting thought, That last living moment, The loveliness of Death, --Nancy Bell, '65 53 Future Farmers of America ADVISORS: O, L.
