Tabor Joyce Gann Gwen Keesee Steve Thompson Ann Turner Reporter Asst. Treas. Secretary President Historian Barbara Neighbors Frances M. Camden Mr. Fenimore Vice-President Treasurer Adviser Five short years ago, history of the class of 1957 began, with the majority of the 32 members of the eighth grade feeling that they had been born one year too late--we would be the first class to attend Rustburg High School for twelve years. Our eighth grade officers were Ethel Leonard, President, Betty Wright, Vice-President, Gwen Keesee, Secretary and Steve Thompson, Historian. We enjoyed,as well as benefitted from the exploratory courses offered that year. One year later, we began our Freshman year with 23 members. With Mrs. Mary C. Hunter as our sponsor, we elected Nina Calohan as President, with Steve Thompson, Joyce Gann and Lena Glick serving with her. To be different, we chose black andwhite to represent us instead of traditional colors. The memorable events of this year included various at- tempts of Freshmen to ''slip out of study hall. The exciteme nt of approximately thirty boys and girls entering our class from Brookville and Mountain View Schools, inaddition to the use of a brand new $500,000.00 high school, was almost too much for the remaining seventeen original members of our class. These new students quickly became our best friends, and we combined efforts to elect Robert Peak for our President, with Mary Hart Brockenbrough, Virginia Hight, Vir- ginia Cyrus and Ann Turner as the remaining officers. Mr. E.E. Evans and Mr. Richard Addison Lee Mason Clarence Edward McCanna Bannie Ann Meade Barbara Anne Neighbors William Gordon Poston Charles Aaron Radford Moorman, our advisers, guided us over many ''rough spots , which included a Talent Show, Sophomore-Senior Banquet and Dance, and assisted with Class Night for the Seniors, since there was no Junior Class that year. Among the more exciting events of our Junior year were the selection of rings and the presentation of our Junior Play, ''Mother-in-Law Blues, which turned out to be a greater comedy thanwas expected, With Frances McGuire as President, and Ralph Wood, Elizabeth Gough, and Nancy Waller working with her, we began to think about our Senior year, Thirty Seniors began the final year with Mr. Fenimore as adviser. Steve Thompson was chosen President, and the first time we made a real impact was when Larry Williams was elected King at the Bazaar. After many weeks of rehearsal, 'H.M.S. Pinafore was presented under the direction of Mrs, Mary K. Andes. Audiences attending the two per- formances were quite surprised to see and to hear Clarence, Steve, Bobby and Lizzie in the leading roles, ably supported by all the Seniors and many ''extras'' from throughout the high school. Then came the Beta Convention in Richmond; some of us will never forget Joyce's ''calypso in front of the eleva tor, while she was looking for her ticket to the dance. Spring dances always meana happytime, and we entertained the Juniors on March ninth with the first Ring Dance for R.H.S, Senior Day wasa riot, with the Seniors imitating the teachers. Easter week-end, April twentieth, found us in Washington, D.C., wildly trying to cram a month's sight-seeing into three short days. This eighth grade class soon fell intothe high schoolroutine, and chose Betty Wilkinson to be president, aided by David Brown, Jane Lee and Robert Ralph. The following fall the doors of the new high school building opened to receive the largest Freshman Class inits history, with many new faces of those who transferred from Brookville. Clyde Smith, Patsy Elliott, Linda Thurston, Lawana Arrowood and Dot Harreitl were our offi- cers, When we became Sophomores, about all we could think of was looking forward to becoming Juniors, and during this year our class took much of the credit for a winning basketballteam. We took part inall the activities of the school and had the time of our lives learning many new things. Summer vacation soon came toan end, and we found ourselves full-fledged Juniors, with Dot Harrell, James Seay, John Woody, Carolyn Hodnett and Joan Edelsteinas officers, In Marchthe Seniors very graciously entertained us with a Ring Dance, presenting our rings to us in a unique andbeautiful setting. Along with our Sock Hops, Square Dance, and Play production, we hada very busy year, winding up our part by entertaining the Seniors with the long-awaited Pron During our next year we shall have opportunities to make many worthwhile contributions to our own ways of life, as well as that of the school, William Baker Preston Cyrus Joan Edelstein Robert Fields, Jr. senna David Brown William Cyrus Wyatt Edwards Kenneth Fore Constance Coffey Judith Dodson Curtis Farrar Estelle Garbee Earl Cowart David Droog Wayne Ferrell Edwin Gough, Jr. Delores Harper Nina Inge Robert Ligon Betty Lou Oliver Gloria Hodnett Carolyn Hodnett Jane Lee Dorothy Harrell Donna Knight Sandra Jamerson Albert Neighbors, Jr. Kenneth Millner Laura Phillips Virginia Milliken James Phillips James Parsons, Jr. Robert Ralph Margy Robertson James Seay Ann Smith Clyde Smith Elizabeth Steele Lois Stone Betty Trent Ellen Tweedy Howard Tweedy Maude Tweedy Gladys Wells Betty Wilkinson John Woody Dennis Wright Cynthia Younger OFFICERS Daphaney Roakes Hundley Raylor Phyllis Carwile Brenda Dowdy Rebecca Hurt Secretary President Vice-President Historian Treasurer Mrs, Fenimore, Mr. T.W.
