v, VS Te oe ts a 7 at Margaret Elizabeth Blankinship Rustburg, Virginia Gordon Hunter Coleman, Jr, Route Two Rustburg, Virginia Louis Eugene Cowart Route One Rustburg, Virginia Lucy Ann Dalton Route One Rustburg, Virginia James Bennett Driskill Route Two Gladys, Virginia Kathleen Marie Elliott Route One, Box 32 Rustburg, Virginia Time passed rapidly, and in September, 1953, there were only fifteen of us left to form the Junior Class, headed by Hilda Lee as President, Mrs, Annie Martin was our Adviser, and we soon grew to depend on her to solve the many problems confronting us, This was the year we had waited for--the year we received our class rings, And what fun we had in getting into grease paint for our first big production, the Junior Play, Late in the spring we had fun enter- taining the Senior Class, and later in helping them to complete their Commencement plans, Although we were having lots of fun along with hard work, we were looking forward to our own Senior days with hopes and dreams, By the time the next September rolled around, we started our Senior year with eighteen enrolled, and chose Freddie Keesee to be our President, It didn’t take us long to realize that we would be the first class to graduate from the new high school, and it seems that we started planning for that day even before classes had started.

SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Barbara Tweedy Louis Cowart Mrs, Robertson Secretary Reporter Adviser Margaret Blankinship Octavia Loftin Historian Vice-President Mary Ida Talley Frederick Keesee Treasurer President SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Four years ago twenty-six noisy ‘‘rats’’ climbed the stairs to the Freshman room in the old building to begin four very exciting years of high school, With Mrs, Harvey Wilson to set us on the right track and Kathleen Elliott as President, we took part in the usual fall activities, The big event of the fall, the Farm Show, saw several of our members taking home the honors, We approached spring, looking forward to May Day, and Peggy Blankinship and Phyllis Wooldridge were our representatives to the May Court, The next year Mrs, Wilson was again our Adviser, and Freddie Keesee was elected as President of our class, There was much ahead of us this year,and we remember the Christmas party, FFA and FHA banquets and our class party, Before we realized it, another year had been completed, and we were now upper classmen,

Then came the Bazaar, and our representative, Bill Staples, won the title of King, after a rather hectic evening of fighting for votes, Just before Thanksgiving we presented the Senior Play entitled ‘‘Happy Days,’’ and it was a big success, What would we have done if it hadn't been for Louis, who so ably stepped into the leading part almost at the last minute! Then came the Christmas Season, and we played ‘ ‘Peanut’’ instead of the usual ‘‘Pollyanna,”’ Wasn't it fun finding out who had been sneaking gifts to us all during the week? By the time Senior Day arrived, the lower classmen were really worried about what their penalties might be, but we were only out to let everyone know who was in the Senior Class,
