The Junior Class has heard about the family of turtles which lives in the marshy spot just back of the community cannery. This family is made up of three members. These are Father Turtle, Mother Turtle, and little Baby Turtle. They have been living there for about two hundred fifty years, but few of us have seen them because they are a little shy and hide in the mud when we are around so we won't be tempted to bother them. As Spring came on one year, however, they decided that they would do like any of us would do; so they planned to have a picnic and go to a nice place which they knew.. They would go up to a sunny spot a few miles the other side of Charlottesville where there was an espec- ially fine place. So Mother Turtle packed a lunch of deviled eggs and sandwiches and got some coca-colas, and then they started. About fifty years later they passed through the City of Charlottesville and came to the fine spot. Mother Turtle spread a cloth and they put the food on it. They were all ready to eat when they found they had forgotten a bottle opener, and so Baby Turtle was told to go down the road to a store and get one. Baby Turtle got ready to go, but before he left he made his mother and father promise not to eat anything until he got back. This they did, and Baby Turtle started on his way. Ten years passed and he hadn't returned. Fifteen years went by, then twenty-five, and finally fifty years were up. Mother Turtle was getting hungry and said to Father Turtle, ‘ ‘Let’s eat a bite.’’ And Father Turtle, who was very hungry also, said, ‘Yes, let’s do. Baby Turtle is not back yet and he won't mind if we eat a little.’’ So Mother Turtle got the things ready again and they each started to eat a sandwich. All of a sudden, out of the bushes appeared Baby Turtle and yelled, ‘‘I told you so, I knew you wouldn't wait for me, and just for that I’m not going after the bottle opener ! ’ JUNIOR CLASS Most of our Junior pupils this year can play some musical instrument, but everyone of them can sing a fairly good song. With this idea in the back of our minds, we decided to make up a list of the favorite songs of each of them. After the list was completed, we found that many of the songs suited the person to a ada baat Mrs. Martin - “Always” Earl Calohan A. P.
