Scienta est potentia. Friends, Romans, Countrymen . . . , exclaims Ricky Rose. The Pen Is Mightier Than the Sword — Edward Lytton Authors at work in American literature class. English composition and literature are required in grades seven through eleven but are optional for seniors. One semester is devoted to English composition and one semester to lit- erature. In the advanced classes more emphasis is placed on the use of Eng- lish in speech, debate, essays and re- search papers. The juniors are study- ing American literature; the seniors, English literature, while the other classes have a combination of the two. Mrs. Miller teaches grades seven through ten while Mrs. Bennett in- structs the juniors and seniors. Latin is a popular subject this year and is taught by Mrs. Elmore.

On the Home Front Get it neat, girls. L. to R.--M. Davis, P. McGaughey, M. Boiler, K. Lieske. What ' s cookin ' ? Charlene, Debra, Michele, and Mitzi. Mrs. McGaughey, the home economics teacher, is kept very busy trying to prepare the girls at R.H.S. for the role of homemaking or for future careers. The girls start home economics in the 5th and 6th grades. These girls, along with the junior high girls, spend some time each year studying foods, nutrition and clothing construction. In high school the girls broaden their course of study to include home nursing, housing, and family living. As you can see, the girls are really prepared for the future.

High school students mr.y study world history as freshmen or sophomore:, while the juniors and sen- iors are required to study American history and American government.
