OUR SPECIAL Thanks to Mr. Ken Barrett, Miss Bonnie Elmore, Mrs. Donna Preston, Mr. Matt Tipton, and Mr. Phil Todd for serving as our homeroom sponsors for four years. Also a special thanks to our senior coordinators Mr. Mike Roberts and Mrs. Sandra Wilhelm. We are also grateful to our parents who planned, decorated and prepared food for the prom to make it a big success. Outstanding among us are those seniors who have maintained an academic average of 90 or above for the total semesters spent in high school. Our honor students are Carrie Atkinson, Shannon Beauregard, Cynthia Dilliha, Jennifer Dunlap, Christine Eary, Page Estes, Ann Gill, Libby Hines, Greg Hale, Tammy Hayes, Mary Jureka, Jody Kelley, Sarah Kondracki, Shelia Marable, Ann Margaret McIntosh, Caity Noe, Sonia Orange, Judith Schiess, Sonya Stephenson, Michelle Thompson, John Young, and Samera Zavaro. Also outstanding among us for having perfect attendance are Robbie Harbison for 6 years, David Williams for 6 years, Shelia Marable for 7 years, and Nelson Cundiff for 11 years! Students in our class who received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award (to qualify for this award students must have an 85 average for the first 7 semesters, place in the 80th percentile or better on a standardized achievement test, and complete 12 courses in the New Basics —these include English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, and computer science) are Carrie Atkinson, Ron Bray, Cynthia Dilliha, Christine Eary, Page Estes, Ann Gill, Libby Haines, Greg Hale, Tammy Hayes, Veronica Johnson, Mary Jureka, Dan Kemp, Sarah Kondracki, Heather McGinnis, Ann McIntosh, Donna Netherland, Caity Noe, Judith Schiess, Sonya Stephenson, and Samera Zavaro. Several significant scholarships were received by a number of the class. WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY: College Heights Foundation, $500 for 1 year—Carrie Atkinson; Regents Scholarship, $1,090 yearly—Greg Hale; Nuclear Assistance, $500 yearly—Greg Hale; J.W. Potter Scholarship, $500 for 1 year—Ann Margaret McIntosh; Regents Scholarship, $1,090 yearly—Judith Schiess; Robert Byrd Honors Scholarship, $1,500 for 1 year—Judith Schiess; and Regents Scholarship, $1,090 yearly—Sonya Stephenson. KENTUCKY STATE UNIVERSITY: Full Football Scholarship—Donald Taylor HARDING UNIVERSITY: Music Scholarship, $1,000 yearly, and Academic Scholarship, $1,000 for 1 year—Ann Gill. AUSTIN PEAY: Academic Scholarship, full tuition plus $100 quarterly-Tammy Hayes. MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY: University Scholarship. $1,000 yearly plus another $1,000 the first year—Christine Eary. DAVID LIPSCOMB COLLEGE: Academic Scholarship, $2,100—Samera Zavaro. CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY: Academic Scholarship, $1,800, and Tennis Scholarship, $1,350—Libby Haines UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE: Louisville Governor's Scholarship, $1,412 yearly—Sarah Kondracki; and Woodford Porter Sr. Scholarship, Full tuition—Sheila Marable. UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY: Presidential Scholarship, $1,412 yearly—Page Estes. Also, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority has selected Page to receive the Kentucky Distinguished Scholars' Award for $500. UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE: Wayland Rhoades Scholarship, $300—Jeff Chiles. LINDSEY WILSON: Full Basketball Scholarship—Nelson Cundiff. BROWN UNIVERSITY: Academic Scholarship, $11,075—Caity Noe. ACTEEN: Presented by the Woman's Missionary Union, $700 for 1 year—Michelle Thompson. N.H.S.: $100—Sheila Marable. ROTARY: $75—Jennifer Dunlap, and $75—John Young. Page Estes, Sarah Kondracki, and Caity Noe are to be commended for their scholarship, diligence, and dedication in receiving the Commonwealth Diploma. (Students who receive this diploma have had to meet a rigorous set of criteria: 22 approved units of credit, including four in English, three in mathematics, two in science and two in social studies—World Civilization and US History; successful completion of four Advanced Placement courses; and the completion of at least one AP examination in three of the AP courses successfully completed.) The Thomas P. deGraffenried award administered by the City of Russellville was presented by Mayor Ken Smith to Page Estes. Each year trophies and honor stoles are presented to the top three senior scholars. The third place award was presented to Sonya Stephenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Stephenson. Sonya had an overall average of 96.511 for the four years. The Salutatorian Award was presented to Sarah Kondracki, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kondracki, Jr. Sarah had a four year average of 97.375.
