t 1987 PANTHER Cylc Zick. Shannon Beauregard, and the rest of Mr. Milam's Environmental Science class head for the hill.” Right: Coach Barrett is a Barrett to his bones and even drive and carries the cones. _ Volume S9 Time Out For Fun Are We having Fun Yet? ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE Students in Mr. Milam's ecology classes participated in a survey of McCutchin Hill, which is located across the highway from the high school. Students were required to change into outdoor clothes and trek into the woods where they gained hands-on experience that would have been impossible in the classroom. Each student was given a quadrant, a 10m x 10m area of the hill, and required to take count of the number and types of trees and to note the different types of vines, mosses, lichens, fungi, etc there. By examining a string of quadrants from the top to the bottom of the hill, Milam was able to obtain an accurate profile of the plant life that exists on different levels of the hill; such data is important in determining the significance of individual tree species and in determining the effects changes on a hill—such as woodcutting—can have on the biological community that exists there. The gathered data will be sent to Murray State University and other concerned parties. SCIENCE CLUB ACTIVITIES FINE ARTS Shelia Marable was accepted to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago based on a 15 piece portfolio of her art work.
