1985 PANTHER RUSSELLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL RUSSELLVILLE, KENTUCKY 42276 VOLUME 37 Style goes the extra mile—it sets apart, blends together; it goes up, it goes down; denotes aristocracy, classifies clowns. So what is style? RHS style? Pride—academic and athletic; communication, conversation, confidence, composition, fun, and frolic—everything that makes us identifiable with that Russellville Style. RUSSELLVILLE sme SPECIAL FACES European style comes to RHS— Old World” culture learns to blend with punk, Rah-rah spirit, and trivial pursuits! The winter of '85 played havoc with calendar. School was dismissed thirteen days because of snow and hazardous road conditions. A snow accumulation of ten inches took weeks to melt. Students were given an opportunity to catch up on the soaps, sleep late, go to work early, do donuts in parking lots and watch movies on VCRs. sNOw GO 4 Opening Casey Mullen, Mike Harris, and Mark Hooper, along with six other RHS students earned regional awards in the Scholastic Art Exhibit. Regional winners are placed in competition with high school students across the nation. Scholastic Inc., sponsors the oldest and most prestigious high school competition in the nation. National winners will be exhibited in Tampa, Florida. In the annual WKU Regional Exhibit, Jennifer Angles, James English and Ursula Blanton were chosen Blue Ribbon Finalist. Their work was exhibited in the All-State Exhibit in Frankfort. 6 Opening I ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ IT’S ALL LUCK! Excitement is created at the entrance of the cafeteria each year as the food service class raffles off its decorated cakes. This event is as popular as the Illinois Lottery.” ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ CLASSES S SENIORS of ’85 Sherry Abott Philip Adler James Anderson Jennifer Angles Donna Armstrong Timmy Bell Anthony Bibb Michael Bibb Kim Borders Angela Bouldin Lesa Brooks Joanne Carter Jordan Clarke Sharon Coleman Sha Cross Betty Cundiff 12 Seniors Kelly Dickey Mitchell Dilliha Terry Dillihay Robert Doughty James English Bill Ferguson Melanie Foster Brian Fruits Melissa Gholson Melissa Gilbert Alice Gill Rodney Gordon Cissy Gorrell Sonny Green Lori Haines Neal Hamilton Felecia Hampton Tony Hampton Lee Ann Harris Misty Head Seniors 13 14 Scniors Catherine Higgins Chris Hightower Mark Hooper Jeff Johnson Laura Johnson Chad Jones James Kees Doug Keith Amanda Markham Marty Marshall Jeff Kemp Debbie Kennedy Mario Long Jada Mallory Yvette Maskin Derrick McGuire Eric McKinney Lisa Mcacham Tim Menser Donna Milam Mike Miller Philip Moore Donna Neagle Parrish Donald Peters Shelly Pike Tommy Powell Sally Price Lee Province Teresa Reed Steve Rhoads Lynn Riley Seniors 15 Connie Russell Pam Shook Terry Shoulders Paula Skipworth Brenda Stewart Sonya Stovall Pat Suiter Charlie Taylor Gordon Taylor Tina Taylor Tim Thistle Tonya Toliver Cindy Walker Debbie Ward Tim Werth Pat White Chris Wilson Ronna Wright Janada Young Sally Yukevich 16 Seniors SENIOR DIRECTORY A ABBOTT. A twenty-four game winning streak added to the excitement. The winning streak came to an end, however, when they were beat by the Paris Greyhounds 7-0. This was the first time in three years that the Panthers had gone scoreless. Sonny Green and Rodney Gordon were members of the first All-Staters. Sonny was the most accurate place kicker and played in more games than any other player in Russellville football history. Rodney had a total of 120 points this year. He carried the ball 965 yards and had 169 tackles. Brian Fruits played fullback and defensive end and was named as 2nd team All-State defensive end. Football 89 WINNERS—AGAIN! 12-0 SEASON Coach Kenny Barrett was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year. FootbalI 91 PANTHER ROUND BALLERS The 1984 85 Panther basketball team showed promise early as they dominated most of the teams at basketball camp during the summer. During the regular season, however, the Panthers were not able to overcome their lack of confidence. The highlight of the Panther season was the 80-73 win over the Logan County Cougars—the first time the Panthers had beaten Logan County. VARSITY TEAM: First row: Mgrs. Johnny Townsend. The class is divided into prosecution and defense teams. Preparation for the trial usually takes several days. The participants must build their testimony or questions around a given set of facts which is sometimes difficult to do. Members of the class serve as witnesses, lawyers, and judge. The jury is made up of students who are not in the law class. The trial usually generates a lot of interest and enthusiasm. In this year's trial, Jordan Clarke was the defendant. The prosecution was led by Sally Yukevich and Laura Johnson. The defense attorneys were John Grant and Tonya Toliver.
