Chamberlain ..... a teacher whose name has been linked with Russell for many years. We appreciate all of the hours and years of loyal devotion he has given to Russell High School. Mr. Chamberlain has been teaching for 28 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He received his Master's Degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee. His First two years of teaching were at Greenbriar Military School in Louisburg, West Virginia. He taught at Darlington School for boys in Rome, Georgia for one year. After this, he was offered a job at Georgia Military School in College Park, but he turned it down for the job at Russell. He has been with us for 25 years. His First opinion of Russell was that Heverything looked deserted. He taught eight grade Math, Business English, and Social Studies. He has sponsored an organization every year. Here are a few of them: Student Council, Junior and Senior Beta Club, Senior Class, and Hi'Y tYMCAi. All things considered, Mr. Chamberlain represents the pride that is ever present at Russell High through its students and staff. For this reason we proudly dedicate the 1979-1980 Pointer to you- Mr. Paul T. Chamberlain Foreward We, the Annual Staff, would like you to meet uRuss . uRuss is an old Model T who has come to life to help us keep the memories of this year. He knows, that in his day, there were annuals to keep young minds from forgetting all those great times. He knows there are many ups and downs in a school year worth remembering. Memories, whether good or bad, are all worth remembering. Follow llRuss as he brings back to life all those great memories of 1979- 1980 for you. . Wiwkhdixwiiwm 0MX7 dimy 13. The old gym has been torn down to make room for a new track and concession stand. The original gym was built in 1934 and replaced 21 years later, in 1955, by the new gym and physical education classrooms. The old gym then became a place for storage. In the 1960's the gym became a place for Seniors to put their grafhtti. In 1974 the Seniors began to paint it green and gold with the Wildcat head facing the football field and the Seniors year of graduation facing the street. We, the Annual staff of u1980 feel that the old gym has served its purpose well through the years, but progress must go on, to make things become bigger and better for the school itself and the community! xx? i3 Rxgv .H x0 mxxix kaSogmk 1 xmai mg kNxxmg Qx Egg H W V Q QVQ :6 Q W $93? The most important part of an annUal is the people behind it. For without each one there would be no annual at all One group of these people is the East Point community, who helped us hnance the. book through their purchasing of advertisements. Another group is all the people at RusSell High Schoole -The Administration, the Faculty, and the Staff, who have been extremely patient, supportive, and understanding. -The students who were very cooperatives -And the parents of our annual staff members. No one had to contribute to this project but those who did provided us with all the cooperation needed. We at Russell are very fortunate to have such a hne annual staff. They have taken time out of their busy schedules to prepare and present this school year to you through pictures and words. They have done a beautiful job. The staff started this year with no experience but learned quickly With such an outstanding group, it was difficult when it came to choosing a junior editor. Nancy Arnold was chosen to assume this position. I have worked closely with Nancy this year and am sure she will do a fine job next year and I wish her the best of luck. During second quarter, Bill Miller, a fIne artist and Ricky Ullirich, an excellent photographer, joined the staff. These young men came at a time when their help was needed the most, and we thank them very much. But this stafic would not even be if it were not for our advisor, Mrs. Newton. Coming to a new school, she took on a group of students she didn't know and shaped us into a fine staff. Mrs. Newton can't be thanked enough for the wonderful job she has done. I hope that this first yearbook of a new decade will not only represent a new beginning for our seniors but a bright beginning full of memories that we all will look back upon in the future and enjoy.
