With this year's work behind us we are half way through our high school career, and We hope that our class has shown some leadership and service. The sophomore class has manifested its ability to participate capably in every activity spon- sored by the school. On both the girls' basketball team and the boys' football team we have been represented. Other activities and sports of like manner have attracted our class. Besides studying faithfully and well, we have entered wholeheartedly into the extra curricular activities in our school. The talents of our boys and girls are being developed in the Clee Club, Personality Club, Campfire group, and Girl Reserves. We hope that we have proven ourselves such citizens that Russell may well be proud of. As we go on down the Highway of Learning we hope that each year will mark a milestone of progress for each of us-in scholarship, character, and good citizenship, and may we contribute to the greater Russell we now dream of. MARGARET CAMPBELL '4l. Freshman Class History We are the Freshmen of Russell High and we're proud of it. We have come a long way, and we plan to go far. We have more advantages than the seniors had four years ago, and wc are going to make the most of them. The first week we stumbled into the wrong classrooms, were lost in the corridors, and couldnit find the cafeteria, however, we have overcome that. The boys were initiated in the lipstickiest man- ner imaginable, and for several days, they had that school-girl complexion . Our class is one of the finest Russell has ever had. We are represented in almost every club and school activity. ln a year or two several of us will be in the Honor Society. This yearis freshman class has come from many different schools, Ben Hill, Harris Street, Church Street, Central Park, and Cascade. The alumni of 'these schools vie for honors' and competi- tion results in better report cards. Today we are lowly Freshmen, but just watch us! The first stone posted Ml7reshinan opened for us a wider and broader outlook. We took a very special pride in participating in the many school activities. Among them were the band which captured second prize in the Georgian's Silver Anniversary, the use of the new Manual Arts Building, and Student Government, that was success- fully enacted for the first time. The second stone posted 'lSophoniorcs', not only meant one more step to the iinal goal but a realization of what Greater Russell is. The N. G. l. C. championship was won by the basketball team which included some of the sophomore boys. A new schedule of eight periods proved quite successful, although due to this, fewer clubs were organized. The third stone posted 'gjuniorsv meant for us a year of accomplishment and success. The football team, which included some juniors, met with a successful season. Also from our class came the queen of the Annual School Carnival. There is always pleasure in accomplishment and we feel our's has been our best so we happily and hopefully await the last year- Seniors, PAULINE GARVIN--,ll-0. We can never forget bow lon and dark each corridor looked or each door seemed to stare at us as we tried to find the right ciassroom. But we finally became accustomed to it all and by the latter part of the year we were becoming greatly attached to Russell. When we became Sophomores in 1936 we realized that the half-way mark of our march through high school had been reached. We then began to prepare for our year as a lunior. During this term, 1937-'38, much was accomplished. The king and queen of the annual fall festival were members of this class. The boys' basketball team won the N. G. l. C. championship. At the end of the year we were a proud group as we took our last step toward a well deserved goal- Seniors . This yearis senior class has been one that has put its best foot forward in everything it has undertaken. History was made by a group of senior girls who organized a new club, the C. V. M. Club, which did much to help build a greater Russell High. The boys' basketball team was again N. G. l. C. champions, with several seniors striking the keynote that led to this overwhelming victory. Three of these boys were chosen for the All-Star Basketball Team. The girls, basketball team did some fine work also. A royal event was the crown- ing of a senior king of the annual fall festival. The Honor Society again expanded its enrollment with the induction of twenty-three seniors at the beginning of the year. We, the Seniors of ,39 are leaving Russell with the satisfaction of having done our best for the school we so dearly love. We are proud to have come so far in the world of knowledge and yet we are reluctant to leave those who have been so near to us. We can truthfully quote of our acquaintances at' Russell the first line of one of Caroline Nortonis poems- W e have been friends togetherf' -ERNESTINE TANKERSLEY--,39.
