Mascot September 24, 1983, was a very special day for Andrew Henderson. On that day he was chosen as the first BRHS mascot. Andrew has to get everyone in high spirits and keep them that way. He performs at football games, pep rallies, wrestling matches, basketball games, and many more events. This furry, adorable creature is known as Alex, the mascot. Alex’s first big performance was at the “Homecoming Bonfire.” Alex made his grand entrance escorted by an Alexander City Police Officer. BRHS fans greeted the mascot with enthusiasm, and Alex really seemed to add a special feeling of spirit to the atmosphere. Alex has contributed greatly to the enthusiasm of the students. He promises to be a big asset to BRHS in the years to come. Tammy Waters Shelia Fennell Valeria Walton Head Co-Head Co-Head 1983-84 CHEERLEADERS Varsity Cheerleaders 1. Allyson Fulmer 2. Russell Corporation is proud of the graduating seniors of Benjamin Russell High, and extends its sincerest wishes for your successful future. But, even though you're stepping out of high school into new challenges, we'll be going right along with you. We started with you years ago —first time you put on a T-shirt. Chances are, it was made by Russell Knit Apparel Division. Russell had a lot to do with making the T-shirt universally popular. And if you participated in athletics, you wore a uniform produced by the Russell Athletic Division. Should you continue in active sports, you'll be running into us again: Russell Athletic is used by more colleges and pro teams than any other brand. But no matter what your intended career, Russell will be there, too. Russell Fabrics Division creates cloth that goes into garments you'll find in the best shops and department stores. So for us, it’s not goodbye. Rather, We’ll be seeing you!’ RUSSELL CORPORATION Alexander City, Alabama Russell Knit Apparel Division • Russell Athletic Division • Russell Fabrics Division WHAT CURB MARKET SMITH FURNITURE 1913 DADEVILLE HIGHWAY ALEXANDER CITY, ALABAMA PHONE. 234-7481 P.O. BENJAMIN RUSSELL'S CLASS OF 1984 We, the Echo staff, have attempted to capture the many steps, taken during the 1983-84 school year. In our attempt we have recorded these memorable steps in pictures and words. It is our wish that this Echo will help you step back in time and remember your years at BRHS. We would like to express our appreciation to our advisor, Mrs. Pam Sher-rer, for her never ending understanding of the many problems which always face a yearbook staff We would also like to thank the Cinder Staff photographer, Lee Waddell, who helped us out of many tight spots, and most of all you, the subscriber! 192 Erika Belyeu — Editor Tammy Waters — Co-Editor Autographs Taylor Publishing Company ilnsaco
