While no one expected very much from this team, they surprised everyone by producing a well-earned winning season and continuing the winning ways of BRHS Football. Basketball team was rebuilding this year with only three returning players. Over all, our record was 7 wins and 12 losses. This was really not indicative of how well we played inspite of all the advcristies. We played close ballgames everytime we hit the floor. We are proud of our organization and we hope to improve next year. The Junior Varsity had a fair season. This team was composed of impressive sophomores and exciting juniors who plan to boost the wildcat varsity team to a victorious season next year.” Page 32 BASKETBALL Varsity (L to R) — Grady Walker, Elverette Lee, Darryl Johnson, Wally Haynes, Kenneth Jones, Milton Stowes, Darryl Price, Michael Benson, Lee Fennie, Dwayne Jennings and Coach Carney. Coach Buzbee “For this team to end the season with a 9-1-2 record and as Sectional Champs is a tribute to how hard each and everyone of them worked. While others doubled their ability, the ones who stuck with it never gave up and kept working toward their goals. We hope our program develops pride, confidence, and self-discipline and this team exhibited these characteristics as they improved every week. They were an outstanding group of young men and I am honored to have a group who worked so hard and gave a 100% effort in every match and tournament.” Seniors Page 41 Tim Mahan s Andy McAlister Mark Tate Terry Riggans QTATE Page 44 «• TRACK Front Row (L to R) Walton Roberts, Herman Hardy. A PRIVATE’S POINT OF VIEW “I made it! Little did I know what adventure was in store for me. As a member o the Echo Staff, I became involved in the top-secret mission of designing pages, drawing lay-outs, and cropping pictures. Although I faced many obstacles, the leadership of my commanding officers gave the courage to ‘carry on.’ Armed with cameras, grease pencils and quad-paks, my comrades and I emerged victoriously over all deadlines. It was not just a class, it was an adventure.” Page 90 Page 91 Editor Andrea Coker Staff — Paul Holley, Mia Mitchell, Deana Foshee, Valeria W alton. Faculty ■■ Principal A Newcomer to BRHS On August 20, Dr. Ralph Cain became the new principal of Benjamin Russell. Dr. Cain came to Alexander City from Huntsville where he was principal of Buckhorn High School. Born in Mississippi, Dr. Cain received a B.A. degree from Mississippi State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama. This year he received a Doctorate from the University of Alabama. When asked his feelings about BRHS, Dr. Cain replied, ‘‘I think we have an excellent balance between academics and athletics. The students have been cooperative and well behaved. This had been a very enjoyable year for me.” Dr. Ralph Cain Page 101 Melinda Brannon B.S. Troy State University M. Ed. Now that actual production is completed, we can look back and realize that the hard work and endless deadlines were well worth it. No one can know the extent of producing a yearbook without going through it. The Echo is the student’s book, the one that will serve years later to bring back the memories of BRHS. We are thankful we’ve had a part in capturing some of those memories. The Echo never could have been completed without the unsurpassed dedication and ) help of our adviser, Mrs. Faye Horne. We would also like to convey our apprecia- tion to Mr. Fletcher Scott. Mrs. Melba Turner, and the Alexander City Outlook. For all of the subscribers, we hope the 1982-83 Echo is not just a book but an adventure! Page 192 Dedie Russell — Editor Terry Riggans — Co-Editor Autographs
