Alexander City High School was located where the Alexander City Junior High School is now. During this time, the trains that traveled through town were powered by coal. As the train went by, cinders were shot from the smoke stacks and landed in the eyes of anyone standing nearby. Students were constantly bothered by cinders in their eyes. When a newspaper was started at Alexander City High School, the students chose the name Cinder; they wanted the paper to be in everyone's eye like the cinders from the trains. Although diesel fuel has replaced coal, and the trains no longer shoot out cinders, the Cinder is still in the eyes of all students who attend Benjamin Russell High School. Russell Corporation is proud of the graduating seniors of Benjamin Russell High, .and extends its sincerest wishes for your successful future. But, even though you're stepping out of high school into new challenges, we’ll be going right along with you. We started with you years ago—first time you put on a T-shirt. Chances are, it was made by Russell Knit Apparel Division. Russell had a lot to do with making the T-shirt universally popular. And if you participated in athletics, you wore a uniform produced by the Russell Athletic Division. Should you continue in active sports, you’ll be running into us again: Russell Athletic is used by more colleges and pro teams than any other brand. But no matter what your intended career, Russell will be there, too. Russell Fabrics Division creates cloth that goes into garments you'll find in the best shops and department stores. So for us, it’s not goodbye. Rather, We'll be seeing you’.' Through pictures and words, we have recorded this very special year in a collage of our school’s most vital element — her people. Each page of this annual is filled with dedicated work and wonderful memories of the school year. We would like to thank the students and faculty for their support and help. Our special thanks and recognition is extended to Melba Turner, Lou Fuller and Pam Sherrer for editing copy, asd to Fletcher Scott, Bobby Martin, Outlook photographer Terry Lewis, and our photographers for the pictures they provided. We present this book to our subscribers as a reflection on 1981-82. Jacob Thornell. Editor Christy Haynes, Co-Editor 200 Finale SSTT- TAYtp
