After one period of play B.R. H. S. led 7-0. Prattville came back in the second period to tie the score. Each team swapped third period TD’s. But the Cats missed the PAT, and took a one-point deficit into the fourth period. In the final period Prattville added a touchdown to ice the game away and take the win. B.R.H.S. Scalps Indians The Wetumpka Indians invaded Hamp Lyon Stadium for the Wildcats’ first home game of the year. Spradley and Phillips scored first half touchdowns and Meigs kicked two PAT's and a field goal. In the second half the Cats’ defense scored two touchdowns. One resulted from Mack Horton’s picking off a pass and a second came as a result of Jones grabbing a fumble . Wetumpka got on the board in the 4th quarter which made the final score 30-6. Cats Tame Tigers Nathan Poole came through with a brilliant performance against the Talladega Tigers to spur the Wildcats to a 23-7 victory. Poole scored twice on runs of 81 and 72 yards. Wade Spradley scored the only other Cat touchdown while James Meigs added two extra points and a 26 yard field goal to run the Cats’ tally to 23. Talladega put together one successful drive and made the extra point. The final score was Wildcats 23, Talladega Tigers 7. 88 Panthers Take Wildcats In their 4th game of the 1973 campaign, BRHS lost to the Lanett Panthers. The Wildcats’ offense proved ineffective against a strong Lanett Panther defense. Lanett scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. The Cats fumbled away several scoring opportunities. The final score was 14-0 in Lanetts favor. Selma Topples Wildcats The Wildcats journeyed to Selma to battle the mighty Saints. Selma put together two long drives that resulted in touchdowns. Wade Spradley put the Wildcats on the board but it was too late. The final score on homecoming night in Selma was Selma Saints 15, BRHS Wildcats 7. Wildcats Take Homecoming Victory The Cats took the opening kickoff and went 60 yards in fifteen plays to take a lead of 7-0. In the second period, Opelika drove to the Wildcat 13 for a field goal. After recovering a Wildcat fumble, Opelika scored early in the fourth quarter leaving the score Opelika 9, BRHS 7. Late in the game James Meigs kicked the winning 25 yard field goal. The Wildcats finished the game with a 10-9 Homecoming Victory. Cats Score Twice The Wildcat offense came through with a brilliant performance to break the Tigers’ streak of twenty-one consecutive scoreless quarters. The Wildcats put 7 points on the board with a touchdown by Andy Sorrell and an extra point by James Meigs. Wade Spradley added 6 more points in the fourth quarter, but the try for two was no good. The final score was Auburn 32, BRHS 13. 89 Wildcats Run Off With Came In the final home game of the 1973 season the Wildcats defeated the Tallassee Tigers 21-0. The scoring started in the second quarter when the Cats drove 55 yards in 12 plays for the first touchdown. In the third quarter Wade Spradley ran 14 yards for the second touchdown. The Wildcats drove 76 yards in the fourth quarter for the final score of the game. Wildcats Upset Rams and Fans On Oct. 19, the Wildcats upset the Valley Rams 10-6. Valley rated number six 3-A team in the state, drove 96 yards in the second quarter for a touchdown. But the Cats struck back in the third quarter when Wade Spradley made a 21-yard touchdown run. In the final quarter the Cats ate up most of the clock with a 67-yard drive, ending in a 29-yard field goal by Meigs. After all football and fighting were over, the Cats held the victory 10-6. Cats Lose Final Game of 1973 The 1973 Wildcats closed out their season in Oxford with a 27-13 loss to the Yellow Jackets. Nathan Poole scored from 29 yards out to give the Cats a 7-0 lead. After Oxford came back to tie the game up, Wade Spradley ran 45 yards for a touchdown ten seconds before the end of the first quarter. Oxford scored again in the second quarter to tie the game at 13-13. But in the third quarter Oxford’s wishbone attack led the Yellow Jackets to victory with two more touchdowns making the final score 27-13. 90 RICHARD McCARY JAMES MEIGS I 4 GREG OWENS RODNEY PARRISH MIKE PATTON STEVE RHODES ANDY SORRELL WADE SPRADLEY Seniors 91 Varsity 1st ROW (1 to r): M.
