SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Upon entering Russell leligh School in l934 we resumed our duties as Freshmen. After try-outs Dot Iacobs was elected Cheer Leader. The next year we were more progressive. Bill Franz was the only Sophomore to receive a letter in football that year. For the first time in History, Russell won the District Tournament and played in the State Tournament. As second classmen we were rated high with Mr. P. A. Wlilliams, jr., as our sponsor. Wie proceeded toward higher standards. Our victory over Ashland in the Regional Tournament at Raceland was a red letter day in our History. ln spite of our singing Old Man River Stay Away From My Doorw, the Ohio River came up to see us and saturated the city. Wle were dismissed from school for four weeks which we had to make up. .Ns the Annual junior l'roduction, we presented the play, XYhat Happened to Judyu. The most important social event ol the year was the Coronation Party, given by the juniors in honor of the graduating class of l937. Max- cine 'Uavis was crowned Queen. Alas! We are first classmen. XVe entered our last year in high school with the hope of completing our last year in a big way. The big stadium at Sportsman Field has added to the enjoyment of the football games. They all laughed even the teachers, when the Seniors imitated the faculty in the Senior Chapel Vlw1'Ug'1'Z1111. Although our basket- ball team was just I'll11l161'-Llp in the District Tournament played in our gym- nasium we won the Regional Tournament played at Morehead, and played in the State Tournament at Lexington for the second time. The two pro- ductions L.-XDY SPITFIRE AND SPRING FEVER are representative of the dramatic ability oi the Seniors. Baccalaureate. Class Night, and Com- mencement follow in rapid succession. The time comes too soon when We must say goodbye and thanks to those who have helped us. The Strains of HOME ON THR RANGE will always bring back please ant memories of the Seniors of ,SS Page sixteen
