THE 1966 RUSSELLETTE PUBLISHED BY THE ANNUAL STAFF RUSSELL COUNTY VOCATIONAL- TECHNICAL SCHOOL CLEVELAND, VIRGINIA FOREWORD The Russell County Vocational-Technical School was started in the fall of 1964 as a county program under the supervision of the local school board in co-operation with the Virginia State Department of Education. Automobile mechanics, masonry, draft- ing, electricity, and cosmetology training classes were made available to juniors and seniors in the four county high schools. With the beginning of the 1965- ' 66 school year, general building trades and weld- ing were added in a continuing effort to broaden the curriculum. Approximately 150 students are taking advantage of the new opportunities and are making the new school a part of their personal educational development. If a student needs to take additional courses other than those taught at the voca- tional school, he is transported to the Cleveland High School for one half of the school day to complete the needed work. Even though most of the vocational students remain at the school all day, they are still considered as regular high school students and are carried on the rolls of the feed- er high school from whence they have transferred. Thus the student secures employ- able skills and knowledges while he remains a part of his high school student body, and graduates along with his class. The school will be operated primarily for students who are juniors and seniors seek- ing a high school diploma. If the classes are not filled with these students, the school may enroll high school graduates and drop-outs. 2 CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION CLASSES ACTIVITIES 3 Dedicated to the growth and development of Russell County and its people.
