The Business Department's popularity is due to its large variety of courses, and its practicality. Mr. Arch Wrisinger, department coordinator, em- phasized the department's three-fold im- portance: The Business Department pre- pares the student in one of three ways, either by giving the student the opportu- nity to work while still in school, prepar- ing him for a career, or for personal use of business in the outside worldf' Many of Ruskin's business students are involved in the Office Occupations voca- tional program, and they are able to use their talents in employment around the entire Kansas City area while still in school. Business department career students prepare students for future jobs ranging from accountants, to secretaries and steno- graphers. New among the business teachers was Mrs. Donna Leker. She taught many of the basic business courses, such as personal typing, business law, and consumer eco- nomics. Mrs. Leker said, The basic business courses aren't career oriented, but they are to the personal benefit of every student. Through them a student can learn to file his own tax forms, keep his own budget, type his own materials, and get his person- al knowledge of how laws operate in the business worldf, 1 Are Mr. Wrisingeris tastes as finicky as Mor- risi? 2 Be careful! Mrs. Maupin is always watch- ing you. 3 Mr. Bates shows how to use a text book. 4 You couldn't have typed 80 words a minute, says Mrs. Capron. 5 Mr. Boone is once again amazed by his students. 6 Mrs. Leker was all smiles in her first year at Ruskin.
