After entering high school as freshmen, they soon overcame their timidity and stood ready to build toward the future. They changed into a confident and proud group as they moved on into their second year. The maintaining of ideals which the Seniors have cher- ished for four years is their responsibility. It is their re- solve that there will be no deterioration of standards for they know that the principles taught by their Alma Mater will blast false philosophies from their paths. xx ISA 4 nt 'a . , 1. ? H. S. surely lies in the sophomore class. Though their history is short, it is im- portant to them and to the school. When they first came here two years agn, they were a very frightened group, Confident they would become lost in the halls of Rushville High School. They were lost, but only for a few daysg after that, they learned that the upper-class men do not bite and are usually willing to help. This fall when they returned once more, they stood proudly with the upper-class men. As they watched the new class enter, many recognized the bewildered look as the same one they had carried the previous year. This class, though they have far to go, is beginning to see the importance of an education to enable them to succeed in the future. ,g, 4-Ai qvifli will Vg n. ? 1' I X 'g,.. fy, M' 6- . -. it V, ,. At first with everything novel, exciting, and exasperating, they were almost afraid to speak. After the first six weeks and a get-acquainted party, they be- gan to feel at home. The Freshmen are helping us carry out our theme of Dreams because they are dreaming ahead to the time when they will be self-assured Sophomores who fear nothing. Co-operation and friendliness typify these open-minded Freshmen as they continue their training for future leadership in high school and for the world of tomorrow. Hall AAonitors One of the harder working groups of R.H.S. is the Hall Monitors. Relin- quishing their study hall in order to be of service to the office staff, they scurry through the halls collect- ing absence slips, delivering im- portant bulletins, and running special errands for Dorothy. These students quietly go about their duties without complaint or asking special recogni- tion, but nevertheless doing their share in helping to make the year a successful one. A librarian dreams of the day when , there will be no more lost books, magazines, or such questions as, Where is a certain book? 'Is there such and such a book in this library? Why haven't you got it? It is no wonder librarians dream of better days to come. The librarians check books in and out, find reference material for stu- dents, and hunt lost books and maga- zines. We wish to thank the school board for the many new books, tables, and chairs that have turned our study hall into a library in which studying is a pleasure rather than a drudgery. Our thanks also go to Mr. Kelly, library director, for his efforts in securing many new books, both fiction and non-fiction, several new dictionaries, and a new set of enclyclo- pedias. A . 5 We are the Future Homemakers of America. We face the future with warm courage and high hope. That is exactly what the F. H. A. doesg it prepares the girls to face the future without fear. The F. H. A. got off to a good start this year with a Mother and Daughter Tea to acquaint the sponsor, Mrs. Church, with the mothers and to acquaint the mothers with the club. Club meet- ings were held during the activity periods on des- ignated school days. A bazaar held in December to make money for the chapter was very success- I ful. The annual Christmas party, followed by caroling started the Christmas holidays with zest. Mrs. Church directed and helped the girls with their projects and problems throughout the year. The girls ended the year's activities with the annualTea and Style Show. They gave the Seniors a farewell party just before school closed. These girls are working to achieve their dreams for the future - of homes of their own and of knowing how to take care and manage them. These dreams are very real and dear to their hearts. F.H.A. F.F.A. Very much in the line of our theme of 'Dreams' is the organization which in its very name forsees the future. This organization is the Future Farmers of America. The chief aims of the F.F.A. are to create a wholesome interest in agriculture and to learn to cope with the prob- lems of today in order that they might be better able to face the future and its many realities. Under the guidance of Mr. Green, the boys got their projects underway and some of them com- pleted. They not only received useful exper- ience from their proiects but also made money. When the alumni returned for the annual dance, they found the gym appropriately decorated in the school's own purple and gold. Here, at approximately 9:30 Byron Hiles swung into a fanfareg all eyes looked to the doorg and the Grand March began.
