ELH55 HISTURH A THIRTEEN-YEAR VOYAGE One bright September morning in 1938, a crew of nineteen intelli- gent youngsters started on a voyage. They were Ronny Barnes, Maxine and Nadine Beers, Charles Chamberlain, Kenneth Clements, Richard Coffey Loren Counce, Robert Devine, Donna Jean Dexter, Robert Huckfeldt, Glen Hogue, Ann Kriegshauser, Duane McLain, Jimmy Shively, Clare Sullivan, Leland Watson, Margaret Thompson, Barbara Powell, and Charlie Wooley. Mrs. Mary C. Harris was our captain. we lost s few of our crew at the first port at which we stopped. They were Ronny Barnes, Robert Huckfeldt, Robert Devine, Margaret Thompson, Barbara Powell, and Charlie Wooley. Our crew was now short, so our captain, Mrs. Harris, enlisted Robert Arthur, Billy Boyer, David Dieriex, Richard Milburn, Mary Jean Arthur, Gladys Stevenson, and Ila and Iva Stevenson. During our second year at sea, Duane Bolek, Melvin Britton, Floyd Taggart, Clara Mae Talbot, Billie Mae Banks, and Blayne Benson replaced Billy Boyer, Jimmy Shively, Leland Watson, Maxine and Nadine Beers, Gladys Stevenson, and Ila and Iva Stevenson. We also lost our captain, who was replaced by Miss Zelma Wolvington. We were joined in the third year by those Wangels,n Tommy and Billy Rush, Florence Heesacker, Marie Darling, and Wayne Ross. Our captain was Miss Sitzer. Donna Jean Dexter, Clare Sullivan, and Billie Mae Banks left us that year. As we started sailing through our fourth year, we lost Blayne Benson, Melvin Britton, Kenneth Clements, Loren Counce, Richard Milburn, and Clara Mae Talbot. We were joined by Pauline Eden and Floyd Hauser. Miss Black, our captain, had quite a time this year. The two Rush boys tried to start a mutiny but got caught and were thrown in the brig. It was a little too much for Captain Black, so Miss Woodward became our captain in the fifth year, when Mary Jean Arthur, Marie Darling, Duane McLain, Wayne Ross, Billy and Tommy Rush, and Glen Hogue left us. Genevieve Sydow and Duane Bolek completed our crew for this year. When we landed at the next port, our captain was replaced by Miss Risinger. We lost only one from our crew this year. Floyd Hauser seemed to see greener grass somewhere else. Our new captain seemed to need more workers, so she engaged Hazel Bishop, Betty Dieriex, Mary Jane Spencer, Clare Sullivan, and Lois Jacobson.

we started our next year with Mrs. Anne DeWitt as our captain. We lost her on some deserted island and picked up Mrs. Hoback. There was a mutiny by the crew and she left us. She was replaced by Miss Dill, who was an Admiral. David Dieriex was her thought that we eeded quite a few more new crew Clare Sullivan, who left us, so we took on Duane Bruce Hollstien, Doris Points, and Jo Wan Kidney. advisor, and he members to replace Cerny, Billy Palmer, us a year. Hazel Duane Cerny and Bruce Hollstien stayed with Bishop, Mary Jane Spencer, Genevieve Sydow, and Duane Bolek also left us. Much to our regret, the next year Admiral Dill left us and was replaced by Captain Peterson, along with three new crew m mbers, Joan Gilliam, Mary Anne Burger, and Betty Ann Cech. At the end of our eighth year, we were all promoted and given a larger ship. We got our ship from the more experienced crew of twelve years, who had not vacated it yet. They welcomed us heartily with an initiation cruise. we lost five crew members, Florence Heesacke Pauline Eden, Betty Ann Cech, Ann Kriegshauser, and Billy Palmer, but gained sufficient new members to adequately replace them and fill the new positions on our larger ship. They were Duane Cerny, Ralph Dykes, Walter Kirstine, Elwin Laurence, Ed Loosvelt, Janet Reed, Pat Talbot, Gwen Jungck, Bonnie Sipp, Gene Kleve, and June Stabler. Mr. Brooks took over command of our new ship with Jo Wan Kidney, president, Gwen Jungck, vice-president, Mary Anne Burger, secretary, and Joan Gilliam, treasurer, as his assistants. There were a few losses in the tenth year of our voyage, Walter Kirstine, Elwin Laurence, Doris Points, Janet Reed, Bonnie Sipp, and Floyd Taggart. we took on Mr. George Gibson as Admiral this year and also picked up some pirates we found marooned on an island. They were Florence Heesacker, Bonnie Grein, Clara Mae Talbot, and Ann Kriegshauser The Admiral's helpers this year were Robert Arthur, president, Ann Kriegshauser, vice-president, Richard Coffey, secretary, and Florence Heesacker, treasurer. In our eleventh year we lost Jo Wan Kidney, Lois Jacobson, Betty Dieriex, and Bonnie Grein. They left us for a trip on a slow boat to China with some pirates. Willis Gran was picked up in the next port. Miss Leech was our captain this year. The crew and Captain leech worked very hard on the two main events of the year, the Junior Class Play and the Junior-Senior Banquet. The captain's special assistants were Joan Gilliam, president, David Dieriex, vice-president, Ann Kriegshauser, secretary, an Gwen Jungck, treasurer. Our twelveth and last year at sea we acquired Kathryn Moore. Our crew was now down to seventeen members, but we were strong and we managed the forty freshmen at initiation very nicely. There are only three of the original class left. They are the undersigned. Mr. Walter Skelton and Mrs. Alonso were our captains this year. Their assistants were Florence Heesacker, president, Ralph Dykes, vice-president, Gwen Jungck, secretary, and June Stabler, treasurer. I' e
