The 1950-51 football season opened with the Longhorns defeating Pine Ridge on our new football field. They tied Chadron High in the second game, and in the third suffered the only defeat of the season when Gordon beat Rushville 19 to 7. The highlight of the season was the defeat of Chadron Prep by a score of 19 to 7. Hay Springs bowed to Rushville 21 to O for our Homecoming and this victory gave Rushville second place in the Northwest Conference. During the half of the Homecoming Game, Ed Loosvelt and Florence Heesacker were crowned King and Queen and reigned at the Homecoming Dance held that evening. The football boys elected Ed Loosvelt and Charles Chamberlain Co-Captains. They were honored at the Northwest Conference Banquet at Hay Springs where they were given awards by Greg McBride. Speeches were also given by Glen Davis, the backfield coach at the University of Nebraska. Afterwards a movie was shown of the Kansas State- Nebraska game.
