We were sophisticated sophomores now, you see, Looking down on the freshmen as important as could beg How proud we were when those report cards were handed out, For we had made all of our credits, without a doubt. When we were juniors, our hearts began to sing, For we were expecting that class ringg And we had all the money earned on our class play, But we soon spent it on a banquet big and gay. Now we are seniors, all full of cheer, Eagerly looking forward to the end of the year, For our diplomas we hope to obtain, If in the faculty's good graces we can remain. ---June Stabler Willis Gran ADMINISTRATIQN X N I9 Si , s s E 5 s n RUSHVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY Miss Erma Leech, B. SENICRS w K ELH55 HISTURH A THIRTEEN-YEAR VOYAGE One bright September morning in 1938, a crew of nineteen intelli- gent youngsters started on a voyage. They were Ronny Barnes, Maxine and Nadine Beers, Charles Chamberlain, Kenneth Clements, Richard Coffey Loren Counce, Robert Devine, Donna Jean Dexter, Robert Huckfeldt, Glen Hogue, Ann Kriegshauser, Duane McLain, Jimmy Shively, Clare Sullivan, Leland Watson, Margaret Thompson, Barbara Powell, and Charlie Wooley. Mrs. Mary C. Harris was our captain. we lost s few of our crew at the first port at which we stopped. They were Ronny Barnes, Robert Huckfeldt, Robert Devine, Margaret Thompson, Barbara Powell, and Charlie Wooley. Our crew was now short, so our captain, Mrs. Harris, enlisted Robert Arthur, Billy Boyer, David Dieriex, Richard Milburn, Mary Jean Arthur, Gladys Stevenson, and Ila and Iva Stevenson. During our second year at sea, Duane Bolek, Melvin Britton, Floyd Taggart, Clara Mae Talbot, Billie Mae Banks, and Blayne Benson replaced Billy Boyer, Jimmy Shively, Leland Watson, Maxine and Nadine Beers, Gladys Stevenson, and Ila and Iva Stevenson. We also lost our captain, who was replaced by Miss Zelma Wolvington. We were joined in the third year by those Wangels,n Tommy and Billy Rush, Florence Heesacker, Marie Darling, and Wayne Ross. Our captain was Miss Sitzer. Donna Jean Dexter, Clare Sullivan, and Billie Mae Banks left us that year. As we started sailing through our fourth year, we lost Blayne Benson, Melvin Britton, Kenneth Clements, Loren Counce, Richard Milburn, and Clara Mae Talbot. We were joined by Pauline Eden and Floyd Hauser. Miss Black, our captain, had quite a time this year. The two Rush boys tried to start a mutiny but got caught and were thrown in the brig. It was a little too much for Captain Black, so Miss Woodward became our captain in the fifth year, when Mary Jean Arthur, Marie Darling, Duane McLain, Wayne Ross, Billy and Tommy Rush, and Glen Hogue left us. Genevieve Sydow and Duane Bolek completed our crew for this year. When we landed at the next port, our captain was replaced by Miss Risinger. We lost only one from our crew this year. Floyd Hauser seemed to see greener grass somewhere else. Our new captain seemed to need more workers, so she engaged Hazel Bishop, Betty Dieriex, Mary Jane Spencer, Clare Sullivan, and Lois Jacobson. we started our next year with Mrs. Anne DeWitt as our captain. We lost her on some deserted island and picked up Mrs. Hoback. There was a mutiny by the crew and she left us. She was replaced by Miss Dill, who was an Admiral. David Dieriex was her thought that we eeded quite a few more new crew Clare Sullivan, who left us, so we took on Duane Bruce Hollstien, Doris Points, and Jo Wan Kidney. advisor, and he members to replace Cerny, Billy Palmer, us a year. Hazel Duane Cerny and Bruce Hollstien stayed with Bishop, Mary Jane Spencer, Genevieve Sydow, and Duane Bolek also left us. Much to our regret, the next year Admiral Dill left us and was replaced by Captain Peterson, along with three new crew m mbers, Joan Gilliam, Mary Anne Burger, and Betty Ann Cech. At the end of our eighth year, we were all promoted and given a larger ship. We got our ship from the more experienced crew of twelve years, who had not vacated it yet. They welcomed us heartily with an initiation cruise. we lost five crew members, Florence Heesacke Pauline Eden, Betty Ann Cech, Ann Kriegshauser, and Billy Palmer, but gained sufficient new members to adequately replace them and fill the new positions on our larger ship. They were Duane Cerny, Ralph Dykes, Walter Kirstine, Elwin Laurence, Ed Loosvelt, Janet Reed, Pat Talbot, Gwen Jungck, Bonnie Sipp, Gene Kleve, and June Stabler. Mr. Brooks took over command of our new ship with Jo Wan Kidney, president, Gwen Jungck, vice-president, Mary Anne Burger, secretary, and Joan Gilliam, treasurer, as his assistants. There were a few losses in the tenth year of our voyage, Walter Kirstine, Elwin Laurence, Doris Points, Janet Reed, Bonnie Sipp, and Floyd Taggart. we took on Mr. George Gibson as Admiral this year and also picked up some pirates we found marooned on an island. They were Florence Heesacker, Bonnie Grein, Clara Mae Talbot, and Ann Kriegshauser The Admiral's helpers this year were Robert Arthur, president, Ann Kriegshauser, vice-president, Richard Coffey, secretary, and Florence Heesacker, treasurer. In our eleventh year we lost Jo Wan Kidney, Lois Jacobson, Betty Dieriex, and Bonnie Grein. They left us for a trip on a slow boat to China with some pirates. Willis Gran was picked up in the next port. Miss Leech was our captain this year. The crew and Captain leech worked very hard on the two main events of the year, the Junior Class Play and the Junior-Senior Banquet. The captain's special assistants were Joan Gilliam, president, David Dieriex, vice-president, Ann Kriegshauser, secretary, an Gwen Jungck, treasurer. Our twelveth and last year at sea we acquired Kathryn Moore. Our crew was now down to seventeen members, but we were strong and we managed the forty freshmen at initiation very nicely. There are only three of the original class left. They are the undersigned. Mr. Walter Skelton and Mrs. Alonso were our captains this year. Their assistants were Florence Heesacker, president, Ralph Dykes, vice-president, Gwen Jungck, secretary, and June Stabler, treasurer. I' e we feel that these twelve years in school have not left us at sea, but have prepared for something bigger in the future for each of the seventeen members of the Class of '51 of Rushville High School. June Stabler Charles Chamberlain Ed. Loosvelt ELHSS PRUPHEEH On our summer vacation in 1956, we decided to look around and see what had become of our graduating class. In New York we found JUNE STABLER. She is now operating the June-Groom Beauty Shop. We visited JOAN GILLIAH'S school for secretaries, which has the distinction of , being the smallest in the world. Since it was a warm day and we were 2 thirsty, we stopped for a coke at FLORENCE HEESACKER'S Drip Drop Soda Fountain. Going on up to Alaska, we found DAVID DIERIEX trapping with his lovely Eskimo wife and five children. What a surprise it was to hear that GENE KLEVE was now Secretary of State of the United States. we found that ROBERT ARTHUR and CHARLES CHAHBERLAIN had gone to California. ROBERT is busy picking oranges in the day time and picking dates at night. CHARLES has made quite an attempt to take the place of Red Skelton in the hearts of the American people. We stumbled over ED LOOSVELT'S legs while he was lying in the shade under an apple tree and while his wife, Sandra, was trying out the latest milking machin on ED'S pet Holstien cow. WILLIS GRAN and Anabelle are now married and he is borrowing the car every night of the week. KATH RINE MOORE is now a famous cowgirl in the movies. Going on west, we found PATTY TALBOT and Wayne in Wyoming on a ranch. PATTY is very busy with the little Speers. DUANE CERNY and his brother-in-law, Bob Waterman, have started an old-time dance in Clinton. We found ANN KRIEGSHAUSER still in Rushville and happily married to Charles, who is now a prominent businessman. Ann is very proud of him, too. Going through Hay Springs, we saw CLARA MAE and Dean. They have their hands full taking care of the little Krugers. RALPH DYKES is now married and has ten children. He thinks he will have to start work soon in the glue factory. The last one we visited was GWEN JUNGCK. She is doing the rumba in the Hoochy-Koochy Night Club in Boston. She told us that RICHARD COFFEY is now a lion hunter in South Africa. Robert Arthur Ralph Dykes Gene Kleve Florence Heesacker JUNIORS X Y I9 Sl ACTIVITIES OF THE JUNIOR CLASS we chose Mrs. Huff and Mr. Hill for our sponsors. Marilyn Edgell was elected Treasurer, Franklin Reeves, Vice-President, largaret Reeves, Presidentg and Helen Colwell, Secretary. It was the misfor- tune of our class to lose Helen Colwell when she became ill with polio shortly after school started. As she will not be able to attend school the rest of this year, we elected a new Secretary, Eleonora Rasmussen. Our first big venture of the year was our Junior Class Play, ME AND MY SHADOW, a three-act comedy presented to the public on December 5 On January 19, we were all thrilled to receive our class rings. To us they are nsupern-the best yet! Remember the class tournaments for the Polio Fund? The seniors gave us a pretty tough time of it, but we won by a score of L6 to 35. Fifteen rahs for the seniors! It is time now to start planning the Junior-Senior Banquet. We hope to have one that will be remembered by our seniors for a long time to come. Good luck to you, Seniors! On Initiation Day the freshmen could be compared to the main attraction of a circus. The girls looked similar to clowns, dressed in their peculiar costumes. The boys were very queer looking, too. The girls wore men's overalls, which were wrong side out and put on backwards, as were their shirts. The boys wore bibless overalls cut to above the knee, with girls' sweaters. For footwear the girls wore high heels with anklets and the boys wore nylon hose and cowboy boots. The girls' hair style was quite becoming, braided and with onions for ribbons. Pin curls and wave clips looked cute on the boys' locks. Both girls and boys wore green ribbons around their wrists, neck, ankles, or wherever they would be visible. They also were a toothbrush on a string around their necks, carried paper sacks, and also lollipops. The boys wore make-up and earrings while the girls wore no make-up. When all of us reached school, the seniors took lipstick and printed in large, bold letters the word UFreshien across our foreheads. we had to bow to all seniors and say, Wlost honorable seniors, dearly beloved by all freshmen.n Another duty that we had was to shine their shoes. At 12:30 we met our partners at the C Q L Cafe. From there we marched to the high school where other fates befell us. The seniors gave a dance for the school that night, but it was especially for the freshmen. we had to wear the same costume to the dance, including the lipstick which had been applied all over our faces and in our ears that afternoon. Refreshments were served by the senior to conclude the event. We are very proud of the good work our freshmen lettermen did in football. They were Gerald Van Buskirk, Eugene Nyffler, Max Widfeldt, and Larry Bolek. The freshmen are now planning to gave a school dance in honor of the seniors who have so well guided us through this year. The 1950-51 football season opened with the Longhorns defeating Pine Ridge on our new football field. They tied Chadron High in the second game, and in the third suffered the only defeat of the season when Gordon beat Rushville 19 to 7. The highlight of the season was the defeat of Chadron Prep by a score of 19 to 7. Hay Springs bowed to Rushville 21 to O for our Homecoming and this victory gave Rushville second place in the Northwest Conference. During the half of the Homecoming Game, Ed Loosvelt and Florence Heesacker were crowned King and Queen and reigned at the Homecoming Dance held that evening. The football boys elected Ed Loosvelt and Charles Chamberlain Co-Captains. They were honored at the Northwest Conference Banquet at Hay Springs where they were given awards by Greg McBride. Speeches were also given by Glen Davis, the backfield coach at the University of Nebraska. Afterwards a movie was shown of the Kansas State- Nebraska game. FUUTBHLL QPLACE EEJUR ON fALL CONF.
