HOWEVER FINE it may be, a school building is only a symbol of learning. Unless there are children in its class- rooms and laboratories and on its playing fields, and unless there are teachers dedicated to the enlightment of these youth, the building is but an empty shell. Not merely a place of intellec- tual instruction for a favored few, but a social institution for the masses, Rushville High School is typical of the Ameri- can free school system instituted in 1635. HAROLD DICK, superintendent of schools, hold B.S. and M.A. degrees from Ball State Teachers' College. BEN B. EARLEY, principal, holds a B.A. degree from Ball State and an M.A. from Indiana University. Able Administrative Staff Ke to Efficient ehools Contributing to the efficient operation of Rushville high school are thesuperintendent school board, principal, two counselors and 26 teachers and supervisors. The superintendent and board are con- cerned chiefly with policy and budget mak- ing, and teacher recruitment. The principal coordinates the many facets of school life, and acts in a liaison capacity in parent- teacher and student-teacher relationships. The counselors work with individual stu- dent. problems, attendance and the testing program. This year's teachers hold degrees from seven universities and eight colleges. They have instructed 553 students in 228 classes, in 27 classrooms and laboratories, sponsored 15 organizations, and coached athletic teams in five major and two minor sports. fJAMES GRIDLEY--B.S., M.S.
