is WAV' TY Commander Craig C. Madsen was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian E. Madsen and grandson of Mrs. Isabelle Dickson Peterson, a former Yeoman IFJ USN during World War I. He graduated from North Haven High School in 1974 and received a Bachelors Degree in Engineering Operations from Iowa State University in 1978. He was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy through the NROTC program. CDR Madsen's initial duty assignment was to USS PAUL F. FOSTER IDD 9647 where he senfed sequentially as Auxiliaries Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant and Missiles Officer. He then entered the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where he earned his Master's degree in Operations Research. Returning to sea duty following department head training in Newport, Rl, CDR Madsen served sequentially as the Combat Systems and Ship Control department head on USS COPELAND IFFG 257, then as First Lieutenant on USS PEORlAILST1183l. In 1989, then LCDR Madsen was selected to establish the Amphibious Warfare seat at Tactical Training Group, Pacific, where he subsequently assumed additional duties in the newly created Joint Warfare Instructional Syndicate. Following Executive Officer training in Newport, he served as Executive Officer on USS BRISTOL COUNTY ILST 1198-I. In 1993, CDR Madsen was selected for duty as the Surface Operations Officer on the Amphibious Group THREE Staff. CDR Madsen assumed command of USS RUSHMORE on July 4, 1996 in Aqaba, Jordan. K

LCDR Parker was born in Sweannee, Tennessee, and lived in Montgomery and Bessemer, Alabama, Tracy City, Tennessee, as well as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned B.A. degrees in History and Political Science from University of Pittsburgh. His Masters Degree is in Military Arts and Sciences from the United States Army Command and General Staff College. LCDR Parker assumed the duties as Executive Officer in May 1995. His previous tour was at United States Central Command ICENTCOMJ as primary Logistics and Security Assistance Action Officer for the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman, as well as secondary Action Officer for Bahrain and Kuwait. Also during this tour, he served as liaison officer for CENTCOM to the United Nations Logistic Support Command during OPERATION RESTORE HOPE, in Somalia. Prior to his Joint Tour, LCDR Parker served as First Lieutenant and Chief Engineer Department Heads, aboard USS GERMANTOWN ILSD-423, Jul 89-Jun 91. This tour included full involvement in OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM. His first Department Head tour was First Lieutenant, aboard USS TUSCALOOSA ILST-1187l, Dec 87-Jul 89. USS TUSCALOOSA conducted a Western Pacific IWESTPACJ cruise in support of Amphibious Ready Group Bravo. LCDR Parker served as navigator aboard USS MARS IAFS-17, Sep 85-May 87. MARS made a WESTPAC!lndian Ocean cruise in support of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group 5, embarked on USS INDEPENDENCE. His first Division officer tour was aboard USS MIDWAY ICV-419, Jun 82-Sep 85, stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. LCDR Parker served as Aviation Fuels Officer, Third Division Officer and Assistant First Lieutenant. During this tour MIDWAY made three WESTPAC!lndian Ocean cruises.
