As we end our last year at RHS, it is also Mrs. Rislove's last year of teaching here. Mrs. Rislove has not only devoted much time to teaching, but has also directed plays and coached speech participants. All this was done with a firm hand, yet always with concern and kindness for her students. As we move on towards new experiences and challenges, Mrs. Rislove does too. We wish her the best of luck in her future plans and thank her for all the assistance and guidance she has given us. The Class of 1986 2 Attendants King and Queen Attendants Teresa Benson and Terry Lisa Boyum and Rod Anderson Shannon Hungerholt and Chiglo Clark Olstad Crownbearers Amanda Bovy and Jacob Dunn As Homecoming '85 finally got under way on Thursday October 10th, the usual RHS students were not to be seen. Wandering the halls were a bunch of nerds and it was obvious to see that Thad Kingsley and Mark Bowen were the nerds of the day! Thursday night concluded with the bonfire in the center of the baseball diamond with all 6 high school classes performing their outstanding skits, the drill team shakin' it. Coach Reinhardt's famous pep talk, and the announcement of the 1985 Homecoming King and Queen and their Court. Friday followed with the traditional Green and Gold and Spirit Day. The beautiful floats of art were created during the first 3 hours of the day. The Student Council toiled all day creating what turned out to be a perfect night in Heaven. Students showing the most spirit were Dean Bakkum and Jeremy LaCroix with painted faces and buttons galore. The parade got going at 2:30 and the sophomores Lions Don t Have A Prayer float took first place, with the 8th and 9th grades taking 2nd and 3rd places. That night our Homecoming game got under way. The band performed another outstanding half-time show and as the sophomores said, the Lions didn't have a prayer as the Mighty Trojans won 20-0. Saturday night ended another great Homecoming with the band The Blitz Brothers , the theme Heaven , and the crowning of the '85 Homecoming Royalty. Thus another memorable Homecoming came to an end. 1985 HOMECOMING ROYALTY VOLLEYBALL ROW ONE: Lori Rasmussen, Shannon Fry, Sarah Hatlevig, Lisa Holland, Lori Roberton. ALL-CONFERENCE Theresa Wilkemeyer, Shannon Hungerholt SENIORS Shannon Hungerholt, Theresa Wilkemeyer, Joell Dubbs This year's volleyball team was formed around six sophomores, one junior and three seniors. Even though we had disappointing moments, our season was one of learning, working together and sharing the satisfactions that the team earned. Our record showed a vast improvement over last year and even though we will greatly miss the talents of the graduating seniors, the nucleus of our team will return and we will be looking forward to an improved season next year. 9 FOOTBALL Row One: C. RIVER VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP The 1985 Rushford Trojan football team captured a share of the River Valley Conference Championship for the third straight year and for the fifth time since the inception of the conference since 1975. The title was shared with Peterson and Houston. The Trojans finished the year with a 5 and 4 record. The Trojans strength was their defense, which allowed only 645 yards rushing for the season and 237 yards rushing in conference play. The defense was instrumental in securing a 1 point victory over Houston when the Trojans held the Hurricanes for 4 downs inside the 5 yard line. The victory eventually led to the conference championship. The low points of the season were the two losses to Peterson. The last loss was in the play-off game which was completely dominated by the Trojans. The 1985 Trojans were a true team in every sense of the word, with each player making his own contribution to a championship season. ALL-CONFERENCE Brad Wenzel, Dan Lind, Heath Olstad. ANDERSON DUO A YEAR TO RMEMEMBER 1986 will be remembered in Rushford as the year the Anderson brothers went to the state wrestling tournament. Rod and Tim have made a name for themselves in wrestling through their unmatched takedown skills, their aggressive pinning combinations, and their dedicated sacrifice to the sport. The two brothers own seventeen Rushford Wrestling records between them. Tim holds the season record for most takedowns (62), wins.(29), falls (17), dual meet points (61), near-fall points (143), and pins in a row (10). Rod owns fastest fall in four weight classes, as well as career bests for wins (92), pins (44), dual meet points (215), and near-fall points (340). Whether it is wrestling on the mat, or coaching elementary wrestling kids. Rod and Tim Anderson have established a tradition of Trojan pride. S.E. THIS YEAR WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY The accomplishments of the 1985-86 Rushford wrestling team will go down in the record books as one of the most successful seasons ever. The team brought home first place trophies in two tournaments, were second in one, and finished third in the district. Seven wrestlers advanced to the region tournament including district champ Rod Anderson, Co-Captain Terry Chiglo (16-9), Dan Bahn (8-5), David Smutzler (13-7), and district champ Stephan Jordahl (19-8). w R E S T L I N G State Participants: Rod Anderson, Tim Anderson. SENIOR Shannon Hungerholt A YEAR OF LEARNING AND GROWTH Being a young team, the 1985-86 season for the Rushford girls' basketball team was a year of learning and growth. The team ended the season with a record of 7-11. This record does not show how well the team did. There were many 1 or 2 point games against teams such as Preston, Grand Meadow, Spring Grove, Spring Valley and Mabel-Canton. Highlights of this season which will never be forgotten are the final seconds of the Wykoff game; the bruises from the battles with Spring Grove; the Caledonia game; 3 point jellybeans and Fred. This year allrconference winners were Shannon Hungerholt and Robin Evavold. Honorable mention went to Jamie Dahl. We will lose one senior. Shannon Hungerholt. Her experience and outside shooting will be missed. The team wishes her the best of luck with her future plans on and off the court. 49 3 n c j 5c BOYS ROW ONE: Jim Larson, Jeff Bublitz, Mark Bowen, G. J. Tengesdahl, Tim Stensgard. SENIORS Dan Lind, Mike Peterson, Clark Olstad The 1985-86 Boys Basketball Team ended this year with a 14-8 overall record and a 4-6 in conference. All of the losses came to three outstanding teams, including four losses to eventual District champion Peterson. The cagers also posted a win over undefeated Stewart-ville. The Trojans were led by seniors Dan Lind and Clark Olstad who averaged 15 points per game. Dan and Clark were named to the All-Conference team. Clark ended his career as the leading scorer in Rushford history at 955 points. Rush-ford has five returning lettermen and three starters. The Trojans were runners-up in the Holiday Tournament and beat Wykoff and Caledonia to make it to the semifinals in Rochester. Congratulations on a successful year! 51 The 85-86 year began early for the Band. First there were those 7:30 a.m. marching rehearsals. The Band did the bulk of its summer marching in June. The hours paid off at the State Fair. The Marching Trojans took third place in the class A competition, finishing ahead of twenty-six other bands. This was the highest Fair finish for any RHS band in twenty years. The Band also had an excellent half-time show, performing in both Rushford and Peterson. Moving inside, the Band gave three successful concerts, sent students to honor bands at Wartburg and Luther Colleges, and took part in both District One Honor Band and Large Group Music Contest. The Pep Band was its usual spirited self. The Jazz Band presented two super concerts, participated in the St. Mary's Jazz Fest, and received their fourth superior at District Music Contest. Eighty students in sixty events, took part in this years Small Group Contest. Twenty-four events advanced to Region State where seven were judged superior. Again this year the Band has given RHS a reason to be proud. ROW ONE: Deadra Dahl, Joan Meldahl, Sheri Brevig, Michele Benson.
