Minnesota. With your support and help, the Kush ford school system would not be possible. All of the citizens have a great deal to be proud of in Kushford. We are growing very fast and adding many new facilities, all of which is contributing to the constant improvement of our lives and making Kushford a gold mine of community involvement and pride. Our sincerest thanks to the businesses and citizens who support the school. ]Jou are making the wisest investment possible. Although the activities of homecoming didn't get kicked off until Thursday, spirits were high. When the doors opened on Thursday, many occupational hazards strolled in. The two, however, who came away with best dressed for the day were Gerri Nielson for her rendition of Billy Idol and Steve Kingsley as a woman. Thursday evening, the bonfire lit the parking lot of the football field. The cheerleaders cheered, ALMOST every class presented a skit, Mr. Smutzler spoke his words of information, the drill team shook it, and last but not least the royalty was announced. The tensions arose as second attendants were announced. They were Lynn Humble and Jon Bremseth; first attendants were Renee Magaard and Bruce Darr; Queen and King were Edie Anderson and Dan Erickson. Friday spirit flowed through school as everyone had green and gold on of some sorts. Those who were rewarded were Joell Dubbs (green hair and all) and Debbie Gielow. The first hours of the day were spent creating works of art to degrade our rivals and homecoming opponents-Houston. The early afternoon for the band members was very wet, why? It's called the half-time show. Practicing for three hours in rain didn't suit many well, however, it paid off because the half-time show looked great. Earlier that afternoon the parade rolled on, however the pepfest was held in the gym. The 9th grade pulled off third place, 7th grade second, and 8th grade first. Soon came time for the final conflict! The mighty Trojans took control of those Canes, rubbed their faces in the ground that they once had defaced and kicked 12-0. How decent! Saturday night we crowned the victory and the royalty and thus put an end to the homecoming celebration for 1984! The team had improved over last year as the win-loss record indicates. Our greatest improvement was having confidence in ourselves to be aggressive at the net and realize we can play with anyone. It was great to beat Houston twice, however I think the greatest win came in the victory over Lanesboro during the tournament. The seniors will be greatly missed, however we have some good athletes coming up through the ranks. It was a really fun year coaching even though it was a year of frustration-so close but yet so far in many games. All- RVC CHAMPS One more in '84 came true for the 1984 Trojan Football team as they won their second straight River Valley Conference Championship and the new cry for 1985 is Keep it alive in '85. The team did an outstanding job of improving to come back and win. As Vince Lombardi said, It is easy to be a champion- but a true champion is a team that can repeat. Best of Luck to ALL of the graduating senior football players. It has been a pleasure working with them these last few years. All-Conference Shannon Hungerholt and Angela Olstad 40 RVC CHAMPS Through hard work, determination and teamwork the 1984-85 girl's basketball team fought off the challenges of Caledonia and retained their title as River Valley Champions. The Trojans proved that they did not have one individual star but a group of talented individuals working as a united team. When one teammate was stopped another took control. It frustrated many coaches but it showed the Trojans were an all-around, hard working team and teams, not individuals win. We will lose two outstanding seniors — Lynn Humble and Angela Olstad. Their fine leadership and experience helped us through this victorious season. The Trojans will always remember the last five seconds of the Caledonia game and wishing for one more minute in the Preston semi-final game. However, as a coach, I could not wish for a more talented, coachable team as this years RVC Champs — the Rushford Trojans. TROJANS SEASON FILLED WITH UPS AND DOWNS The 1984-85 boys basketball season was best described by a series of ups and downs. During midseason, the Trojans beat Stewartville and Region runner-up, Caledonia in the same week. Rushford also gave Peterson a serious threat to their undefeated regular season when they led by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter. Several overtime or at the buzzer losses severely hurt the Trojan record. The regular season record was 11-8 with the Trojans being rated fourth in the District. The Cagers then met Preston in the first round and won big. The boys met a tournament-ready Spring Valley and suffered a ten point loss after playing a great first half. The ten point loss was the worst suffered all year, which is a credit to their tenacity and ability. Seniors LEFT TO RIGHT: Jon Bremseth, Ron Rislove, Rody Jaen, Dan Erickson, Steve Highum. All- Conference Clark Olstad and Dan Lind 43 SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR WRESTLERS AT RHS The 1984- 85 Rushford Wrestling season was the most successful ever under the leadership of Coach Hoesley and first year assistant coach Koenen. The team finished seven and five in dual meets and scored a record 152 2 points, for third place, in the Dodge Center tournament. Tim Anderson led the team in wins (23), takedowns (38), near-fall points (110), and dual meet points (48). Tim was also District champion and finished fourth in the Region tournament at 98 pounds. Co-Captain Rod Anderson picked up 21 wins and led the team with ten falls. Rod was also District champion and finished fourth in the Region tournament at 112 pounds. Seniors Jeff Bellock at 145, and Dean Colwell at Heavyweight, had 16 and 15 wins respectively, as well as earning runner-up honors at the District level. Tim Anderson was named the outstanding wrestler. Rod Anderson was named most valuable, David Smutzler earned the tenacity award and Jeff Bellock and Dean Colwell shared most improved honors. The concert band had a good year playing excellent literature and receiving a very welcome superior rating at contest. The jazz band continued its winning ways by advancing to region state contest for the third year in a row and we had a large turnout for solo ensemble contest with 15 events going on to region state. The pep band continues to be the peppiest group around as well. Overall, we have had a successful year. ROW ONE: E. Cornwell, M. Benson, C. O'Donnell, M. McManimon. ROW TWO: D. Grimsrud, T.
