Also, the game at Caledonia which the Trojans won 32-28. It was a fun year! I didn’t think 1 would see the day when we threw as much as we ran. (974 yds. rushing, 825 yds. passing). So we are looking at even more passing for next year. We needed more defense, we were outscored in the first half by 30 points. We outscored our opponents by only 22 points in the second half. “Life is a game of football, and we are the players.” Some are cheerleaders, some are coaches, and some are old grads slightly the worse for the wear in the stands. Some of us thump the people in front of us on the head in our excitement, some of us are the people who always get thumped. We played better volleyball than we did the first year I coached. Even through we won only three, much experience was gained by the younger girls and we are anticipating a much improved season next year. Among the Trojans accomplishments were winning the Holiday Tournament Championship trophy and placing second in the River Valley Conference. The three seniors (Doug Lind, Bryan Peterson, and Corry Burt) contributed and will be missed, but with four starters coming back the 81-82 season should be exciting. Barb Olson, Coach Smutzlcr. 1980-81 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM The girls Basketball team finished the season with a 2-13 record. The team was lead in almost all categories by senior Molly Culhane. Molly lead the team in Rebounds, Scoring and Freethrow %, and was selected to be the All-Conference Team. Also lettering for the Trojans this season were Juniors Sonia Kjos, Shari Huerkamp, Cindy Gaskin. Sophmores Janel Dahl, Lori Erickson, and Caryn Humble and Freshman Debbie Prudoel. Assistant Coach Kappas. 1980-81 WRESTLING TEAM The wrestling team showed marked improvement in the 1980-81 season finishing the year with an overall record of 3-6. Two of the three victories were over Houston including a 28-27 squeaker in the second meeting. The young Trojan squad, sporting one senior, one junior, and ten underclassmen, were led by co-captains Pat Finley and Dale Brand. Finley, the lone senior, finished the dual meet season with 12 falls and a 14-2 record at heavyweight. Pat then went on to place second in the district. Dale, a sophomore, wrestling at 185 lbs. had a 13-4 dual meet record and four second place finishes including the District Runner-up spot. Dale was narrowly eliminated in the Regions by indentical 6-4 scores against two of the top place winners. Other wrestlers who helped Rushford to a 4th place finish in the district and 5th in the conference were sophomore, Tim Dahl, at 138, and junior, Dale Baker, at 167. Both placed third in the district and Tim was the Grand Meadow tournament champion. Although Pat Finley will be missed at heavyweight, the maturing team is looking forward to continued success and improvement next year with twelve returning lettermen. River Valley Cooperative Center The River Valley Cooperative Center provides vocational education programs for the students from Rushford, Houston and Peterson. In Rushford Model Office, Building Trades and Auto Mechanics are available and students from all three districts are enrolled in these programs. Two young girls, Mary Abigail Gentry, played by Lu Ann Helleland and Ruth Hannah Smith, played by Judi Hawkins were accused of being witches. Two older men. Widow Jones, played by Sonia Kjos and Dame Stanley, played by Renee Benson, accused and condemned these so-called witches.
