Valley Legend 1980 Volume L Advisor: Mrs. Shirley Grunsted Editor: LeeAnn Volkman Jr. Editors: Molly Culhane LuAnn Helleland Dedication We the Seniors of 1980 dedicate this annual to Mrs. Barbara Culhane, Kindergarten teacher at Rushford High School. As we began our 1st year as students at RHS, it was also Mrs. Culhanes 1st year as a teacher here. Our class as a whole, the students individually and Mrs. Culhane as a teacher, have learned and grown in many ways since that first year of school at RHS. We would like to express to her our appreciation for all the guidance and help that she has given us - from our first day of school to finally our graduation day! Table Of Contents Introduction . Page 1 Page 7 Page 17 Page 25 Page 40 Page 46 Page 49 Page 67 Page 99 As the year passes before us, we reminisce the times we have worked, played, loved, competed, and laughed. All of these have a place in this annual of past school experiences, yet we have only just begun ... Just as the past fades into the golden thoughts, mini-photos, that winning basket, and goofing through the halls, so is a whole new life awaiting us. As the 1979-1980 school year is relived on these pages, and the fond memories become images in our minds, we need not despair that great times have gone because, after all, the future awaits. The defense allowed the opponents to score only 46.2 points per game. Balanced scoring was the rule throughout the season as four starters (Derek Dahl, Todd James, David Ruberg, and Robin Rislove) averaged double figures for the season. Steve Hungerholt did an excellent job of quarterbacking the team. Bench strength helped the team many times as Brent Heiden and Byran Peterson helped the team win several crucial games. Congratulations on another fine season. Good luck to all in the future. 54 At right - Front: Jimmy LaCroix, Calvin Olstad, Scott Hoegh. They had 3 dissappointing loses to Sp. Grove by 1,2, 3 points which kept them from sharing the conference championship eliminated them from the Tournaments. The Trojans were led by Julie Carlson in almost all catagories -scoring, rebounds, F.T.%, and blocked shots. LeeAnn Volkman and Joan and Julie Carlson were also selected to the all conference team. If you judge achievement by won-loss records the Rushford Wrestling team didn’t achieve more than a two and eleven record in dual meets. But if you judge achievement by improvement, potential, and heart, the Rushford Wrestling team achieved alot. First year coach Hoesley and his assistant Mr. Haws started this year with four wrestlers with varsity experience. Next year there will be twelve. Senior Co-Captain Noel Mehus finished 9-4 in dual meets, second in the district, and led the team in back points and takedowns. Junior Co-Captain Pat Finley turned an almost winless season last year into an 11-7 record, third in district, and seven pins, l.eading the underclassmen was Freshmen Dale Brand with an 11-9 record, 39 Dual meet team points and seven falls. The only other senior on the team, Kostas “The Greek” Seitis, led the team in entertainment. 58 B-Team Row one: Dean Colwell, Philip Baker, Dan Stammer, Steve Kingsley, Row two: Coach Hoesley, Randy Todd, Chris Vitse, Dale Baker. Kostas Seitis “The Greek” Our AFS student this year was Kostas Seitis, better known to most of the Rushford High School students as the “Greek”. Kostas is from Rhodes, Greece and stayed here with the Allen Dahl family. As most of the students got to know Kostas we saw that he was a strong-minded, ambitious person, and became involved in many activities at Rushford High School and in the community. He enjoys sports and participated in football, wrestling, and track during his year at R.H.S. Kostas has taught us alot about Greece and we hope he will remember Rushford with as many good memories as Rushford will remember him. 71 FFA TIT Row one: Officers-Absent President-Richard Johnson, Sentinel-Susie Lind, Reporter-Ingrid Westby, Treas.-Doug Lind, Vice Pres.-Clair Olson, Chap-lain-David Ruberg, Parliamentarian-Lance Jameson, Sec.-Mike Hallum. They have been able to determine the kind of office work they like and can do well. All were good Model Office employees and active Office Education Association Members. I am looking forward to next years Model Office students and hope they will be as enthusiastic as the 1979-80 model office students. Shirley Grunsted Other Vocational Classes include: Houston - Clothing and textiles Houston - Recreational Vechiles Peterson - Child Care Peterson - Farm Mechanics 88 Building Trades The Building Trades class has been working on the project at Niggle field, funded by the Lions club. The building has turned out very well and the students have taken great pride in their work. They would like to Thank Norman’s Electric, Bakken Construction, and G.S. Woxland Co. for all their assistance. Leo Morgan Auto Mechanics The Auto Mechanics class has studied a variety of units and worked on a wide variety of projects in class. These experiences will give them invaluable knowledge as they continue their education in the automotive field. Many of the students have developed sufficient skills in Auto Mechanics to be successfully employed now and all students in the class are more knowledgable as operators and consumers.
