I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine, He said. For you to love the while he lives, and mourn when he is dead. He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief, You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief. 1 cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. 1 fancied that I heard thee say. Dear Lord, Thy will be done, For all the joy Thy child shall bring the risk of grief we'll run. We'll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may, And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay. Fold this flower where you never forget. Put us by where time no longer counts then come back to a sure remembering. Appreciation The Class of 1977 would like to express its sincere appreciation to Mr. Warren Schmidt. We thank him for the help he has given not only to our class but to the entire student body. A friend among men is by all accounts a curious event, but he was there. And written here between these lines is what gentleness he taught me and some hardness too, the way to make our way alone, though never how to find a friend and leave him gracefully. 4 No one’s moved the road for me and no one's found a way to beat the brush down through the woods or make the brambles snap back safely and on cue. But when the time came to get into the game, he never put anything through. He would dream with a smile of the after-a-while, and the deed he would do pretty soon; He was all right at heart, but he would never start . . . he never could get quite in tune. If he would have done half the things he's begun, he'd be listed among those of fame. But he didn't produce, so he was of no use; good intentions do not win the game. It is easy to dream, to plan and to scheme, and then let them drop out of sight. But the man who puts through what his dreams bring into view, is the man who will sure win the fight.
