That would, of course, be rather discouraging to the chairman of the committee, unless she, also were too busy to attend . But, I thought, how interesting if on the morning of the reunion each absentee sent a telegram in which was stated the sender's occu- pation and reason for absence. And how very interesting if these tele- grams were collected in o little book and passed about so that all the class members might get first-hand information about the others. l be- come so engrossed in the idea that I even pictured to myself the exact wording of the telegrams the various people would send. I could pic- ture in my mind the following: l Amafarmer . Raisewinter wheat and summer squashes. Can't come because am busy with harvest. RAYMOND JAMES There's something queer about that, but I'm not iust sure what it is. I suppose R' ymond is a very scientific former and knows all about rotation of crops and everything. Iwonder if he raises shorthorns?l never can remember whether they cre cows or turnips, but he probably raises them, anyway . 2 Am private secretary to the head of o huge corporation. He was born crazy and had a relapse. Won't give me time off to come to re-K union. I shall write all his letters backwad for a week. PETE CATE That poor manl What she'll do to his correspondencel You remem- ber, - she never did let anyone impose on her. I wonder if she spells any better than she used to--or worse. No., she couldn't spell worse. 3 Have stopped nursing at the hospital. Am nursing at home - mother of six children. Sorry. L WANDA WELSH Welll It looks like at thatrate she will have her fourteen children. 4 Can't come to reunion. I'm traveling about on wheels - l've iust muried a salesman of Buick Automobiles. MARGARET VANCE Bet she is riding high . But who would have thought that she would have married a salesman, she is the type that likes a home. 5 Sorry can't come to reunion . Have just married the chief surgeon at the hospital . Honeymooning in Knoxville . No time for a distant trip. BARBARA BEARD I knew Barbara would not be an old maid. Probably attending all the ball games. I5 Just ioined the Navy to see the world through o porthole. Shall think of you all in every port, as I walk through the slums and see the peculiar people. J. R. DIAMOND I don't think he meant that quite as it sounds, but merely that he would behomesick in those queer places and wishes to see his friends. He is so ambitious he'll probably be an admiral by the time the fleet gets to Manila. . I6 Success has come to my door -- have iust married the owner of a large depatment store. Have a winter home on ILE DU DIABLE and a summer home in BALUCHISTAN, honeymooning in our yacht, GRA- NADA on Loch Lomond . BEA STALLINGS Well, at last she has got married. Bet she feels big. I7 Having a busy time -- operating own Beauty Shop. Paying off fine . Hard work though. JULIA LANGSTON At last she has decided to operateaploce like that. Bet the people that walk out of that place are funny looking. Wonder if Julia's hair looks any better than it used to. Hope so or she might lose some cus- tomers. l8 Have retired from my nursing career. Spend most of my time rais- ing cats and chickens. Sit by fire and read Scott and Dickens. Hus- band is author . Have met a wonderful mm, a Psychiatrist. He thinks he has Echinococcus granulasus. He hasn't but I don't mind taking X-rays. Sorry. SHIRLEY DOTY l'll bet that she marries that guy. ' ELSIE GANN Well at last Elsie has become a teacher. I really didn't think that she would do it. Thought maybe she'd get married, raise a family and settle down. But sometime people fool you. lershe has g time with those children. DREAMY EYES CALM We, the Class of 1950-51, in the town of Strawberry Plains in the county of Jefferson, and state of Tennessee, being in good mental condition as usual, and in much better temper than usual, do hereby make this, our last will and testament. And in this manner do we dispose of our possessions. To the principal and faculty -- The memory of our mischievous way. To the young Green Freshmen we leave the map of the school building, so theywill not get lost and roam around in everybody's way. To our good friends the Sophomore Class, we leave our patience. It will be found useful as the only means by which they can endure the Juniors. To our friends the Juniors, we will our cheating notes, paper wads, and chewing gum, which they will find placed under the desks. To the Future Seniors we leave our ability to always have good-luck in collecting ads for their annual. To Christinia Kriptez -- I, Barbara Beard will all my love for Roy. To Robert Schrader -- I, Pete Cate will my ability to ask questions in class especially Bible.
