LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF CLASS 1949 Z Friends of B. S. H. S., being collectively of sound mind and body, no fear of anyone before us: We hereby make public this our last will and testament, the ninth day of February, 1949. We give and bequeath to the school as a whole any memories they have of us, either good or bad. We give and bequeath to our teachers all our unfinished lessons and our badly, unread reactions. We also will to them peaceful nights and undisturbed slumber, for no longer will they worry about our examina- tions, no longer will our grades disappoint them. To Professor Hamrick, our principal, we bequeath our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for his great interest in us in the shaping of our lives and the part he played in making us what we are. May God's richest blessings be upon him always. To our parents who have made our school days possible, we promise to make the most of our education. To Hester Martin, Frances Lee leaves her dignity as a senior. Shirley Woodall leaves her talent to Frances Allen. To Johnnie Mae Smith, Marjorie Blanton leaves her wit. ' To Reese Honeycutt, Bill Walker leaves his ability to imitate Professor Hamrick on English class. Johnnie Mae Hammett leaves her shyness to Peggy Love Jones. To Billie Hawkins, Glenn Powell leaves his motto, Always be late for English class. To Lavenia Burgin, Grace Hawkins leaves her beauty. Alberta Hamrick leaves her ability to make good grades to Frits Blankenship. Paul Rogers leaves his personality to Peggy Hamrick. To Peggy Self, Rachel Ann Lemons leaves her ability to study. Helen LaNier leaves her seat in English class to David Hamrick. 'To Becky Brooks, Doris Martin leaves her ability to attract boys. To Steve Holland, Max Harris leaves his place on the annual staff. Conway Goode leaves his ability to be courteous to Carrie Lee Hoyle. To Mary Frances George, Evelyn Hester leaves her ability to draw. joe Herbert leaves his ability to get geometry to Nick Green. To Madge Dixon, Hazel Spake leaves her English book. To Max Hamrick, Joe Dean Ledbetter leaves his ability to entertain Mrs. Ada Hamrick. To Junior Hamrick, Wayne Earls leaves his bus to drive. CLASS HISTORY 225 Our high school education was four years away in '4S. We had begun our work with 52 fellow students. Miss Dorothy Sue Hamrick was our Home Room Teacher. The Class event of the year was a weiner roast and skating party. We thought our boys made an excellent record by winning the class Basketball tournament. The Class of '47 had the loss of 10 members. We had a picnic that year. Miss Dorothy Sue Hamrick, our home room teacher, went with us. ' The 10th grade boys won the class Basketball tournament. In 1948 the class lost 20 more students and gained 1 which made us 3 total of 33 members . We honored the Senior Class with a banquet that year. The theme for the Banquet was In Fair Hawaii. It was given April 21, 1948, at the Hotel Charles in Shelby, North Carolina. The Juniors got 3, great pleasure out of giving the banquet. We wish t0 thank Miss Dorothy Sue Ham- rick in giving the banquet and for being our home room teacher in '46, '47, '48. We ordered our rings in '48 and the Junior play was also given entitled Three Old Maid Aunts. The boys kept up the good work and won the grade tournament again. The class of 1949 has Mrs. Unie Hamrick for our home room teacher. She will also direct the Senior play. Our membership this year is 24. At the beginning of this year we received our class rings. They carried the tradtional emblem which is the torch. We are looking forward to the Banquet given in our honor by the Junior Class. But most important of all we are looking forward to graduation day, after that we will go to join the vast and happy throng of B. S. H. S. Alumni. ' RACHEL ANN LEMONS, Class Historian. .e N I

The glorious hours that we spent with each other Must stop at this pointg they cannot go further. But our alma mater has been so dear That we'll never forget these blessed years.
